Default LG's on!

First I've got to thank my friend Rodney and all the guys at RPM Transmissions for taking time out of their schedule to put the headers on for me. It took just over 4 hours, but mostly because we were all busy talking and hanging out. The headers went on very smooth, no problems getting them in place. Used the stock gaskets and stock bolts, which I didn't think would work, but luckily did. LG forgot to ship the hardware so we had no bolts or clamps. But no bigge, got some 3 inch clamps from NAPA and as stated above, the stock bolts worked fine. Called Bobby and he's shipping them out ASAP and will replace them Tuesday when Rodney slaps on the 4.10's. I bought the high-flow cats, but in a last minute decision, decided not to put them on (anyone wants them, shoot me a pm). Also, instead of drilling a hole for the o2 extension, we just hung them along the panels (sorry, my terminology sucks!) away from the pipes. Seems to work well and clear the pipes well. Got everything installed and started her up. No leaks, no problems. And I am very happy I did not use the cats. No CEL and the sound is great. Absolutely no drone or interior resonance. And at cruise I can't even tell a difference from stock. But during mild acceleration and WOT throttle, it really comes alive. Can't wait to see how much more throaty she gets with the h/c, intake, and corsa sports on her. I can't say I really feel any power difference. Likely it's not too great since a tune wasn't involved, but these things are so subjective anyway. I'm sure it made a difference and will be a key ingredient to the package I am putting together. Overall, I'm very satisfied with LG and the headers and can't wait to give you guys some #'s when the car comes back from LPE in a few weeks.

Congrats.

My CEL came on today, after about 80 miles of being catless. Hopefully HP tuners will be available for the A6 soon so I can knock out the rear 02's.

I've got my fingers crossed, as I suspect mine will appear as well. Part of it I guess. I've put about 60 miles on her since the install. I won't have the car out again until Tuesday when I take it for the gears, so I'll keep you posted on the CEL.

What will you do when its time to get a safety inspection? How will your car pass the emissions test with no cats?

I've had 3 Trans Ams and this is my second vette and I've never had to take an emissions test. Maybe Indiana doesn't require them. I've never heard of them here. I guess I assumed it was just a CA thing. I'll deal with it when I get there I guess. Maybe I should keep the cats?

Testing is ODB-II, there are no sniffers in MD. They can't see the cats on a stock C6.

My lightning had no cats and passed with flying colors.

Sure looks like LG has a bad habit of leaving out parts. This is at least the 4th time I've read this about LG headers.

Not 100% sure, but if you turn off the rear 02s won't this give a "not ready" reading when they do the ODB-III check?

If you turn the test to "No Error Reported" but leave the CEL box checked you *should* be OK.
Haven't seen a spec on OBDIII yet. I think they are having privacy issues with it legally. But this is for another area.

I doubt it. Usually it just has to go through a cycle of events, at least that's they way my previous vehicles have worked. You couldn't unplug the battery and plug it back in then roll into the emission station, but turning off 02s was fine, this may be different.

I don't really care, I'll figure something out. I find 20 dollars to the guy running the test tends to take care of things as well. Also, if the car is too low you get a 2 year waiver, so thats 5 years....wonder if I'll keep the car that long.

The inspection stations may be just interested in the engine service soon light. In Jersey as long as the engine service soon light is off.... you can still pass. Our 96 Ford Bronco has had an evaporative canister code that I erase just prior to entering the inspection station. Even thought it reads "not ready" on my scanner I always pass.

BTW Our SVT Cobra has a dialbo chip installed which locks our scanner out as well as the inspection station scanner and we have never failed emissions ............ go figure

Codes, smodes. If A6 tuning doesn't become available soon by next weekend I am putting the LT's on anyways. I lived with a CEL periodically in the 05 for a bit and cannot hang any longer with the stock manifolds/exhaust whimpy no-***** sound any more. The quietness is worse than the CEL glaring at me. Lately, I have been driving around above 3000rpm just so I can sound a little mean.

They can tune the computer for the engine now. Just because you have an A6 doesn't mean you have to be throwing codes. I had mine done a week ago after a headers and cam swap at LG and no codes have been thrown. The software for tuning the tranny is what isn't out yet.

My install was 400 for LGs. You can get it done allot cheaper but since my car is still under warranty I got the dealership to do it so that I would have paper work if anything came up about warranty issues.

http://www.z-industries.com/ They have a tune for the A6 I just spoke with him yesterday, and they are not to far from you.
