black should match exactly. its the only color that has no color at all, and every black is black. That being said, I took my roof, that was 3/4 of the way detached today to maxie price, and they are going to paint a new one for me/ hopefully it will match.

-replaced steering wheel position sensor, it was internally shorted.

-replace fuel door release actuator,

- loose rubber strip inside back glass rescured with adhesive, has been loose from the day I bought the car.

- rear axel, differential fluid, drained and flushed housing. refill and install LSD Additive. (whatever that means)

What should I do, lots of adhesive was spilled on to the back of my seats, very noticeable if you pull seats forward.
I paid $53000. A real s..... job they did. This is my fourth Vette, never had so many problems.

Like to hear from you!
Helga
Go order yourself a Shelby GT-500 much simplier car that will have less problems and cost of maintenance will be much lower. Car is more durable and easier to enter and exit.

Similar ****ty experience at Jon Hall chevrolet here in Daytona Beach. Took my VY in to get the roof replaced, got it back a couple days later. Wasn't completely happy with paint finish they did on the new roof, took it back and had them fix it.

Got it back tonight, noticed that the inside of the car smelled of some sort of chemical. On the drive home I noticed a whistling noise from the engine bay that occurred around 3000 rpms that didn't exist ever before. Got home, and noticed white powder residue near the doors on the inside, I suspect this is what was causing the chemical smell.

Popped the hood, revved the engine, and couldn't pinpoint the whistling sound origin. However, I did notice the battery booties were flipped back, apparently they had to jump it, I guess they didn't put it in reverse. I then noticed when I closed the door, the windows weren't reset, so they didn't index back up. I am guessing this is where the chemical/cleaners spilled in through.

This type of service just pisses me off, and I will have a word with the manager there tomorrow. I'm mostly concerned about the whistling sound, and thinking it might be the alternator working harder than usual to recharge the drained battery. That would be my only guess, unless they screwed around with something else. Any thoughts here?

Default Roof Panel Recall

Had the recall completed on V/R 2005 at Bill Black Chevrolet, Greensboro NC. Took about 40 minutes according to the shop receipt. Left it with them for about three hours. The roof came back looking perfect..

Actually, black is the hardest color to match. Paint isn't an additive color medium, it is a subtractive medium. That means it has to achieve the color you perceive by subtracting out all colors except the one it is supposed to be from the light striking it. Black has to subtract them all, equally, with no masking color to hide the less than perfect subtraction of other colors. That's difficult.

Or put another way, there are a million shades of black, all different, and all look different in different light.

Had my roof done Monday. Dropped my car off and had it back in less than two hours. Can't decide if it made any difference (if I interpret the recall letter correctly, Chevy is doing this "just in case" on any of the affected VINs, even if they don't appear to be separating when they inspect them), but at least they took care of my car while they had it.

Even so, oil changes, scheduled maintenance (what little there is), lubing my Z51 rear suspension, etc. will continue to be performed in my garage! No offense to dealers, I just figure I have more invested in my car than anyone else.

Correct - total . Service writers will say anything to push a problem off to another day. His nose should have grown a foot as soon as he finished that sentence.

It must be correct when you pick it up...it can only get WORSE over time, not better.

Black is NOT just black. My car is like 6 different colors now, due to a wreck where the L/R Qtr, Hatch, Hood, Front Bumper, Rear Bumper and Drivers Door were all painted - but at different times with different paint batches - NONE of which match the factory job.

On the bright side - my recall replaced roof looks pretty good, and the squeeks, grinding and popping noises are gone...

Now, if only someone could do a decent tune on my mods...

Rick

Default Did mine no problems

I wasn't having problems, but was at the dealer one morning and the service tech said lets do your roof panal. I had revieved a letter stating if I were having problems, cracking ,poping etc, to take in. So I left the roof panal. Came back later that day and picked it up. I coun't tell if they had done anything. It looked fine to me, and as before I still don't have any roof problems.

13 day's after I got my z51, a kid in a early 80s rust bucket, spray painted gray nasty car, side swiped me going down the road,Damages hole left fender,nose,3 rim's,1 tire I was pissed, But the pro I have is my nose clips that hold the nose down around my light's keep poping up and the coner of the nose where it meets the hood around the back of the light's is about 1/4 high, and I have taken it to the dealership 4 times to be fixed, and it is still not!! so I feel you guy's on the problems...

SERVICE -ALL CHEVROLET DEALERS

Subject: 2005/2006 Chevrolet Corvette Service Information/Parts Inspection - 2005-2006 Replacement Roof Part Number 19120484
Message #: CHS20060095

Audience: All Chevrolet dealerships, Service manager, Parts managers
Involved Brand(s):2005 - 2006 Chevrolet Corvette
Topic: Service Information / Parts Inspection - 2005-2006 Replacement roof part number 19120484

This message is being sent to all Chevrolet Dealers. Regarding 2005 and 2006 Corvettes requiring a replacement painted roof for any reason including roofs required for Customer Satisfaction Program number 05112

Some dealerships may have a replacement roof, part number 19120484, in dealership inventory. It is important that any new roofs in dealership inventory beinspected for a date code to insure the part is within the known good build dates. The supplier places two date stamps on the inside of the roof panel before it is attached to the roof frame.

The date stamp can be found by:
1. Place the roof, panel side down, looking at the front corner
2. Remove the front corner brackets or front frame end caps (identified in the attached parts document number 22) to be able to look inside the roof frame and down at the inside of the panel
3. A white or blue sticker with a 5 digit code should be visible. See attached diagram
4. If the code has a number between 53241 and 53051 do not use the roof. Call Art Spong immediately for a replacement roof at 586-947-8890
5. Reinstall the ends caps for use if the roof is not within date codes 53241 to 53051

Not all vehicles in this range will have a defective roof. There will be some that do and some that don't. There are also locator pins and weatherstrip noises that may make you believe you have a defective roof.
