NO! It costs A LOT of money in research, development, tooling etc to have those paddle shifts. To discontinue it in the middle of the year simple would not happen. And what would they replace it with???
Nothing, they could still offer the 6L80E six speed auto with both 'D' and 'S' modes (which is all most people likely use anyway) and just leave off the paddle shifting on the steering wheel if need be.
I think that would be cool. Finally I would have a car that is somewhat rare due to limited production.
If this were to ever happen (HIGHLY unlikely) the few of us (multi thousands now I'm sure LOL) that have the A6 with paddles would be fetching in the million$ at Barrett-Jackson in like 2050 or so LOL.
So the A-4 was dropped in "05"? I thought it was still available for "06".
If you wanted an automatic in 2006, you had to order option code "MX0" with a $1250.00 price adder. This would give you the only automatic available which is the 6 speed paddle shift. The A4 in 2005 was a no cost option
I had to check the date of the first post to make sure chains weren't being pulled. However, since it wasn't on April first, maybe this "rumor" originated on that day and just took it's time reaching here. I can't believe any of you would think this was even a possibility!!
Unless they add a DSG type transmission in the future, the A6 as is will likely be the auto choice for many years.
