Default Daytime Running Lights

Is there a way to program Daytime Running Lights OFF as a permanent default?

without further modifications the only way I know of is to flip the headlight switch before the lights get to engage just at the moment when you start up.

Default There must be a way to turn them off

On a Corvette they look like broken turn signal.

not that i know of. i dont like the lights on either, so i normally turn the light dialed towards me every time i start the car. this shuts the running lamps off until you shut the car down again, at which time you'll again have to turn the dial.

i wish there was a way to turn them off permanently, but everything ive read thus far points to a big fat NO

I had the same idea that if by only having them come on when I wanted them to I wouldn't have to worry about changing them as often since they do double duty as your turn signals but it does make you more noticeable as far as safety goes and the C-6 is a low slung vehicle that people may have trouble seeing.

They might help Grandpa see you when he's making a left turn, or pulling out of a driveway. To each his own, but I'll leave mine on.

No, don't think anyone has found a way to shut them off permanently without giving up the turn signal function they provide.

Thanks, boyz. It's the GM visibility philosophy. I prefer to increase my visibility when necessary, decrease for stealth. Driver override would have been nice.

Daytime running lights have been a requirement in Canada for some time and they claim that the added visibility has resulted in fewer accidents. Truckers in this country have been running with headlights during daylight hours for years. You are beginning to see more and more sign’s stating; “daytime headlights required for next ?? miles” on certain high accident rate highways!

I believe in “See & Be Seen”, therefore I leave mine on all of the time!

I leave mine on for liability. If someone hits me, I don't want to end up in court saying "Yes, I intentionally disabled a manufacturer's safety device."

But I agree they look stupid.

I think that they look pretty neat! I recently attended a Corvette rally during which we had a charity poker run; there were about 30 + C6’s behind me and in the side view mirror there were running lights as far as the eye could see. Quite a sight! Apparently it also caught the attention of the opposite direction traffic, because we got a lot beeps, waves and thumbs up!

Racedrvr, thanks for pointing out the old threads. I searched for them, but didn't go back far enough. After sorting out C6 advice from C5 advice, I think I've got it. Many thanks!

try using the parking light setting. you can leave it there (as opposed to the momentary 'off'), and the parking lights will auto-turn-off when you shut off the car.
