I have a 2005 C6 with 1200 miles on it. 3 weeks ago it would not start; an indicator appeared on the computer saying, "Service Column Lock". I had to have it flat-bedded from my garage to the dealer where it is still awating a part. Anyone else experience this??

I guess call me stupid....I've read a few posts about column lock on the C6....mine does not have this wonderful feature? Am I really missing something? Or do the C6's actually have a column lock on them?

If you have a 05 you have a column lock. The 06 eliminated it.

Freaking wonderfull, you think they would have learned the first time around with the C5 fiasco....GM really needs to pull their head out of their ***.

Column lock was mandated by law -- only in '06 was GM able to convince government lock was useless.

Do you have MN6 or A4?
'Service Column Lock' warning shows frequently with any dead battery situation, and there is usually no actual column lock problem. There was one report of '05 column lock failure, but nothing like with C5's.

Column lock was removed from automatics during the C5 run (I think in 2001.) It was removed from all Corvettes in 2006. Many 2005 column lock problems seem to be associated with DBS.

That's probably not true.
Although the DIC warning 'service column lock' comes up frequently with any dead battery, and not just DBS, it is just a general code that shows up, and generally there is not a column lock issue.
Now, it may eventually turn out that there is a relationship between the column lock and DBS, but so far that has not been shown.

They have now been removed from all MN6 C5s too via recall. Just had my '00 FRC done two weeks ago. I think they may still be in the '05 C6 because it's part of the BCM S/W, and that will take recoding to fix. In other words, if it comes, may be a while .
I don't know......my 2005 vette coupe does not have, nor has it ever, had the column lock on it......I bought it Sept 10 2004.....turn the wheel all you want.....it won't lock up.

I have had two DBS ever sense I have made sure the steering wheel is locked it has not happened again. Guess I am lucky. I am betting on a programming flaw in the computer that checks to see if the steering wheel lock is in the locking position. This is only an opinion not based on any facts.

I wish it was that easy but in my case in over a year and 7500 miles I have not had DBS and I never make sure the steering wheel is locked. It probably locks half of the time. I just shut it done and get out of the car, it locks sometimes and other times when it is not lined up it does not.

In December one month of specifically not locking the column and no DBS.
Thanks for all the replies, I have to differ from those who say there is no column lock. Sorry, the car is at the dealer having the actuator for the column lock replaced. My vehicle is a 2005 C6 Z51 and it does have the infamous column lock. The dealer told me they could not disable it-"it is hard-wired into the system". The battery is fine and has been fine. Does anyone know if it is possible to have this "feature" disabled??
