Flexplate recall
Dealer was instructed to pull the bellhousing in order to do the inspection for whether the flex plate had property clearance between the rivets and clutch plate surface to allow it to auto adjust.
Following instructions, they determined the clearance was not within tolerances and proceeded to order the replacement flex plate, clutch, etc.
proceeding to remove the clutch, they discovered that there are actually 2 different flex plate types. They contacted tech support at GM and upon further inspection determined that my flex plate was the new one that had recesses for the rivets and had propert clearance. Had they known this when they started, they could have pulled the starter and upon seeing that the later flex plate was in the car would not have had to drop the exhaust, torque tube, etc. and remove bell housing.
If you are within the recall range, you might have your dealer pull your starter and avoid having your car torn apart.
Good news is that since they had it apart, I got them to put the 1/4" aluminum ceramic coated tunnel plate in for me (no charge since they would have had to put hte original back in anyway). They also put in my CAG bypass in while they had it up.
They also replaced the emergency brake handle assembly because they scraped up the handle when removing the torque tube and clutch, etc.
Only other problem was I had to clean the interior where there were show and other marks on the beige door panel, and finger prints all over the place.
Long post, but hopefully some of you will be able to avoid having your new car pulled apart for inspection if they can see you have the later flexplate by pulling the starter and won't have to pull the exhaust, torque tube, bell housing, etc. just to see that they did not need to.
Good luck
