2005 - C6 grinding when turning at low speed - differential problem
I had a noise in the rear end almost from day one with my 2005 C6. I have around 6,000 miles on the car. I took it to the dealer twice and they were unable to duplicate the problem until 3 days ago. I would always hear a "grinding" metallic noise from the rear of the car when turning to the left at low speeds (such as parking lots, etc.) The dealer finally replicated the problem and determined that it was a problem in the bearings in the differential. It has finally been repaired.
I noticed on the forum that a few other people had posted similar noises.
I hope that this helps others to have the "noise" problem corrected.
I thought I had the same issue but it turned out that if you turn a sharp circle with cold tires (lower tire pressure) the edge of the tires sort of jumps on the pavement making you think you had a rear end crack. It doesn't do it when you take it to the dealer because the tires warm up to a higher air pressure. Add some air and it goes away.
I appreciate the replies. For the first reply - the problem occurred all the time at low speeds, with or without warm up, and only with slow left turns, not right turns???
For second reply. I had not read the owner's manual as carefully as you. Thanks for pointing that out. Obviously it was in the differential and either replacing new gaskets and/or new oil may have solved the problem. So far, so good. Thanks so much.
