couple of days ago i've raced a manual 06 corvette.
both cars are bone stock and i won the race 2 times ??
is that possible coz i thought that he would beat me with the manual transmision
Lots of variation among cars. Also, his car could have less than 3K miles on the clock, and hasn't freed up yet. Also, is yours a Z51 and his is not? The Z51 has softer tires.

I only have my new A6 for a few days and just went past the break-in period. Just took it for a ride and judging from what this car will give ,I would offer that not only ''CAN'' the A6 edge the mn6, but it will beat it more times then not. The mn6 must be launched and shifted perfectly and the A6 simply steered. We all know that the mn6 should beat the A6 AS IT GETS LESS DRIVETRAIN LOSS--but it simply requires a lot more skill to utilize it's advantage.
Now if you want to paddle shift against the mn6 ,you then would be taking a big chance of not anticipating correctly when to shift and bouncing off the rev limiter. While doing so may leval the field ,leaving it shift itself in S mode makes the manual driver drive the perfect race to beat you.

*ding ding ding* Winner. There are NOT a lot of "perfect" manual drivers out there. Ask me how I know?

Vi, the less than perfect MN6'er
Yep, I dont drive a stick cause Im Joe Hotshoe. I do it because its more fun. Be aware though that on a roll the stick guy (or gal, hats off to Violet) has both less loss and more advantageous gearing and life will be tougher there.

It will be ''tougher there'' as you say but the a6 has closed the gap. I had 2 mn6's which I lanched poorly and often wound up downshifting to 2nd when it was 4th I wanted--and I have been driving stick since 1965--so I went to a couple of A4'S. tHE A6 is a real improvement from the roll over the a4.

Exactly, driver's skill is almost EVERYTHING in a three pedaler.
I ran twice against an MN6 base model at Firebird. He won each time. However, my A6 was bone stock and only had 570 miles on it and his car had a K&N aircharger and magnaflow mufflers (probably worth 15 hp between the two of them?). The manual driver is a friend of mine and he launched at idle and cut 2.2 second times, so with my 2.05's I was always ahead of him at the 60 foot mark. He shifted pretty darn fast and just tracked me down, what a helpless feeling. I ran 13.1 at 109 each time, he was at 12.9 at 112.
Personally, I don't care if some guy in an A6 can beat me in a race or not.
The point is that the guy driving the M6 is having more fun.
Regardless of who wins the race, the guy driving the M6 is having more FUN than the guy with the A6.
Nothing beats the feeling of using a clutch and working a shift ****.
It's really all in your definition of FUN. I like sticks in a lot of cars such as smaller turboed ricers. But I know it may be blaspheme, but I really like the c6 better with the a6 and I am having fun. I love the immediate power that is available by how much of the gas pedal you give it.

Put another 5,000 miles on your car and it will be quicker. If you put the same light mods that he had ,it will be a real horserace. I know the a4 I just traded was a heck of a lot quicker with 7,8,and 9,000 miles on it then slightly more then 500. Neither of the times is bad for Arizona, but if nothing else changes,as far as modding, you will improve.

570 miles? That could play some part in the 13+ times.
Most tend to be short shifting, pampering the car when it is brand spanking new.
Also, car will get a lot stronger with closer to 1500 miles on it.
Torque Management is the real limiting factor with the A6, no question. As soon as TM starts getting eliminated/reduced you will see A6 1/4 mile times improve.
More miles, at least an intake, and tune (available soon I hope) should get you in the mid to low 12's.

That may be true but Id rather WIN the race without missing a shift and blowing the tranny. And when it comes to traffic which for most is experienced MOST of the time...who is having more fun??? THE Paddels give me the option of "control" like the MN6, just without the clutch. I tell ya, I drive in S mode most of the time until I hit traffic and then I sit back, relax and laugh at all them COOL guys with sticks...

My A6 is my fifth Corvette and one of the only auto transmissions I have driven in over 40 years of driving. I only use the paddles, since I am a manual guy. Perhaps I will try it in S mode without the paddles and see what happens.
