Default royal purple trans fluid

the dealer said that i need to change my differential fluid.
i dont think i do but if i do should i use this stuff instead of the factory replacement. and if so , how many quarts do i need to buy. and how can i be sure that they even put it in. as you can tell i dont trust my dealer very much. should i take it to jiffy lube or ammco.
also my shifter rattles a lot and the dealer said it was from the aftermarket exhaust.
i have had this problem since before the exhaust was installed. and recall on this.????
thanks guys.

How many miles on your C-6?
Again this is strange in the manual it says only change trans fluids and differential if it leaks. This goes against what manual says but then again maybe they want early failure of these components so they can get more $$$ from you.
Redline works for me.

Greg, I'm looking to try the Royal Purple fluid too, I saw they sell it at Performance Automotive Warehouse on Nordoff/Desoto. Keep me posted with your results or maybe we can get it done together. I understand Joel (fly a c6) replaced his with Redline at LAPD.

I use Royal Purple in My LPE car. Seems to work really well, though I have no empirical data to back that up. You are right to not trust the dealer. I took mine down with the RP in the back in a box. When I went to pick up the car, I looked at the bill and it showed a charge for trans and diff fluid. I looked in the back and there was my RP - un opened. What were they thinking? Thinking? NOT!

Default My .02......

My C6 is my third 'Vette, and in the last 2 I ran GM Synchromesh in the trans. and it smoothed out both trans. with a slight reduction in heard/felt noise/vibration. In my C5 diff. I ran Redline fluid, and it was excellent, in my C6 I am currently using Amsoil. I believe they are both very compatable, and I look forward to seeing what gains, if any I will pickup on the dyno next time I get it strapped down ! Of course there will be other mods done as well, so I won't have any specefic numbers on just a fluid change.

I changed my diff fluid this past weekend to Royal Purple, 2 quarts out, 2 quarts in. The Royal Purple already has the friction modifier in it, so you dont need to add it. I checked my manual and it doesnt list the capacity of the diff fluid for some reason. My car just hit 3k miles on it, and I just wanted to get the old stuff out for the intial break in etc. It was MUCH dirtier than expected and it stunk like hell, stunk up my whole garage!!! Ive changed diff fluid on cars with 75k on them and it looked clean, not sure why the vette looked so crappy, glad its out, I would have it changed if I were you.

Sounds like changing is a must. Can't do any harm unless you mess up the auto trans filter and pan removal.

After some research, edited to change my question:

I guess you put "Synchromax" in the transmission and "Max-Gear" 75W90 in the differential. Is that correct?

TIA, Bob

What are the drain plug sizes for the auto trans and rear end? You can get magnetic plug from Chevy now for these.

Hypoid oil always stinks onces its heat-cycled... there's sulfur in it. IMO changing the diff fluid regularly is a good idea, but don't go by the smell, that's normal.

I have asked my dealer about changing trans fluid to Dexron 4 or RP. He said either would void the warranty

My mn6 does not shift smooth, but I have had a few problems with the trans, so I need the warranty.

Any thoughts?

I had problems with one of my other cars where shifting was terrible so I switched to Redline and ended up keeping the car instead of selling it. Not only did it free the shifter up but it was easy slick n smooth changing between gears-what a difference. On the C-6 I wonder like the engine oil GM 4718? is there a spec number for the rear end differential? What does Chevy use from the factory fill? Synthetic oil?

Royal Purple is actually purple, so if you really want to check if they used it, you can open the fill plug and stick your finger in there.
