Default Callaway Honker

Just got it and installed it today. What an impressive change in sound and performance.

Thanks go to ZUNTOV for PM me with some added details to look out for during the install.

MANY THANKS go to my good freind Joe, AKA Flynbya2.

Without his help and sacrifice of his Sunday, there is no way I coulda accomplished this project.

The finished install looks so good, it as if GM should have designed it this way.

I highly recommend the Callaway.

How about you or ZUNTOV posting these "added details" in case somebody else (like me maybe) is contemplating installing the same item?

The Callaway is very well constructed and looks like factory stock.

The "Honker" is a very well constructed piece but I was disappointed when I didn't feel any performance gain. When I swapped over to the Vararam, I felt a seat of the pants difference but the construction quality can't match the Callaway product. Can't go wrong with either choice.

Then why do you say you cant go wrong with either choice of you feel Vararam is better?

I dunno, the Honker is a vast improvement and well felt in the seat of your pants.

I think the Vararam gives you a little more performance. The "Honker" uses better materials and is better constructed. Take your pick.

Glad all went well.
An extra set of hands is definitely s big help when removing and installing the shroud.
I did mine by myself and that was a PIA.

In all our side by side tests the Calloway Honker beats all comers.

We recomend it as the preferred RevXtreme air intake.

I installed the Honker on my 01' Z06............ $490. was a little much for the difference it made.

The quality is great.............it does sound COOL when you open it up!

I wish I had a buddy around when I installed mine, it only would have taken 4 hours.

I had both the Honker and Double-D exhaust put on my C6 on Friday. I picked the Callaway stuff after a bunch of investigation of several other systems. Two things that made a big difference to me were the construction quality and the support. Both systems are incredibly well made. It was a bit sad to put something so well made under a car but...

I had run into questions on various forums about the sound of the Double-D and water injestion on CAI systems (not Callaway's specifically). The folks at Corvettes of Houston were really helpful on questions regarding the sound of the Double-D. The Callaway support folks also sent me a fairly long email explanation of the testing they do for things like water injestion. Impressive.

Here is a picture of the Double-D installed in case it is of interest...

Many thanks to the folks at Callaway, Corvettes of Houston and The Corvette Shop in San Diego who did an awesome job on the installs.

How loud does the exhaust get when you install a DD onto a system of Melrose headers, hi flo cats with x-pipe? I like the look of the DD but I already had the Corsa Sports installed with the above components and it was WAY TOO LOUD! Currently I now have the stock cat backs on with the headers, etc. etc. and while its not a stock system, its almost as quiet as the stock system. I need some more noise but not as much as with the Corsa Sports and above system.

I cannot speak to the sound with the headers and x-pipe but the change in sound from the stock system is not annoying. One reason I selected the Double-D was that their folks made the claim that it was reasonable at idle and noticeably louder at throttle. Both claims are accurate. The idle is a low but fairly quiet rumble. Throttle is definitely louder but still not obnoxious. One difference seems to be that the Double-D is rich on the low-end but does not have any of the higher-end popping of other systems. It may be worth sending a message to the Callaway folks who could send you some links to sound configurations...

Sorry I could not provide more info...

How long did the Honker take with "friends" to install. I was about to purchase the Lingenfelter unit that you can order with the pre cut shroud.

I installed the Honker myself, and it took about 3 hours with the majority of the time used to remove and reinstall the shroud - that thing is a major PITA.
