normal driving around town, I shift at 3000-3200. I never let the revs drop below 2000 unless starting or stopping.

Default normally...

I shift around 3,000 in normal driving conditions...in my 2000 C5, stock...you mean to tell me that some of you shift from 1st to 2nd at 4,000+ rpms?

ok, in a stock C5 if I am drag racing I'd build the th RPMs up to about 3,000 for the launch...so? Enlighten me...

In a spirited launch at what RPMs should I shift 3,000, 3,500, wat do you think?

I do all my shifts by sound alone. I would guess probably around 3-3.5K. It's just such a natural feeling that I don't pay attension to the RPM's.

have 2600 miles now - 6th on freeway get really good gas mileage - amazing

city driving - 3000 rpm
Followed exactly the same routine in my '05 Z51 and have had 10K trouble free and enjoyable miles. Usually change up at 3,000 revs, except for 5th t0 6th, where I use 2,000.

Me too. I only watch the tach when really getting into it, and then shift early in the 5000 range 1-2 and 2-3. If I were racing, I'd shift right at 6000, max hp. With max torque at 4400, anything over 6 grand isn't buying you much. That keeps the next gear in the sweet spot. I would also think side stepping the clutch off the line at ~ 3000-3500 would be about right--in performance mode, at the strip. At least with the F1 Supercar tires.

It depends on my mood, but I usually only use 1st, 2nd, and 5th gear in town. I guess that's why I only get 12 - 14 MPG in town.

I'll chime in with agreement on the 1750-2000 shifting... during "normal" driving, I rarely see the line go above 2000rpms.

My shift light is set at 6600 so I can pull the shift just short of the 7K readline

Around 3k in around town mode.

Now ---- the question is:

When you drive your vette, what % of the time do you spend driving in the following manner.

1. 1.5 - 2 K Granny Driving (me 10% - this is neighborhood stuff)
2. 2 - 3 K It's a vette (me 30% - it's the law))
3. 3 - 4 K I'm gonna drive it like a vette (me - 30% having lot's fun)
4. 4 - 5 K Let 'em know you're around (me - 20% - it is exciting)
5. 5 - 6 K Get the hell out of my way! (10% - just gotta do it)

Therefore, when I drive it, 60% of the time I am, at the least, having "lot's of fun" when I drive it.

I have a stupid question, related to this thread topic. The Z06 is capable of doing 0-60 in first gear. What about the F55/Z51s equiped with the LS2. Will the transmission, rear end and gearing allow a 0-60 in first gear?

I think it tops out ~49 mph in first.
