Default C6 back from Charlotte tuner

I got my '06 C6 back last night. I had a Vararam, mild cam (.224/.228/.570/115), retainers/springs kit, Kooks long tubes, high flow cats, x-pipe, O2 extensions, road and dyno tune. Unfortunately we couldn't dyno the car before, but after it did 391 RWHP and 380RWTQ. Car sounds great with the stock exhaust, a small barely noticeable lope and drives great. Pulls like crazy, I wanted to keep reliability, may do heads next. I'd be interested in your thoughts on the performance.

It was dyno'd at the new shop almost ready top open with Nick Williams and Robert Wilkinson (formerly at More) doing the work.

Thanks
Jack

Where's the new shop and did you think the work was high quality?
More Performance did some work for me on a prior C-5 but always overcharged for dubious reasons.
Do you think these new operators are or would be reliable in price and quality?

I was happy with the work- Bob Wilkinson has done a good job for me in the past. I know there were some folks that weren't happy with More but I don't have anything negative to say about them. The car sounds great and the intallation looks great; the tuning really has woken up the car. There have been some positive comments about Nick Williams on this forum and I think he is the principal although I've not met him. As far as prices go, they charged me about what I've seen for tuning and labor, and the parts were no more than the lowest forum vendor prices I've seen.

Ok, you asked for opinions on power made, and my opinion is that you are falling a bit short of what I would have expected.
My car (C6, Z51, 6MN) made 350 HP and 349 TQ totally stock, with only 700 miles on her. Using the parts you added, I would hope my car would crack 410 horsepower and 400 TQ at the wheels. I have a friend with those same mods on his C6 and he makes 419 HP and 417 TQ. However, I think his cam may be more severe than yours.

Headers only with a tune should yield around 375 to 385 for an M6. Add a cam like yours and I'd expect around 400 to 410. What were the numbers before the tune? My 01 Z28 with an LS1 had headers, cutout, and a 224/.581/112 cam. It made 367 at the rear wheels before the tune and 381 after the tune. Add 18 cubic inches for an LS2 and that would put this combo at 401.

I think those numbers are low. I just dynoed 393hp and 382tq and don't have a cam, but have a ported LS2 intake. I believe you should be well over 400rwhp. Mods are in sig. My dyno is in this forum at the bottom of the page.

Hey, if you are running an automatic, your numbers are in the ball park. Do you have an automatic or manual transmission?

Thanks guys. 6 speed....I was thinking the numbers were low...but didn't know and don't know what the car did before the mods because their dyno wasn't installed. I did keep the stock exhaust.

Numbers are low from what has been posted on this forum. I have LGs and a vararam witha spacer adn I have 390 to the wheels. I would figure you would be somewhere like 415. You should post the information about the cam you put in and check to see what type of software was being used. My tuner which is in Durham NC used HPtuner. I used Jeff at Carolina Auto Masters. I suggest you give him a call he is very experienced with vettes. I walked into his shop and every motor in the building was getting forced induction. Very knowledgable and tell him that Fred with the Yellow C6 sent you. It only cost me 300 for my dyno tune and I am sure he will get it right for you.

Excellent advice. He stated that he's using a middle of the road 224/228/.570/115 cam. A number of people use a similar cam, 224/228/.581/.590/114 cam, so he's using a decent cam. What would worry me is did he get the cam in right. If your tuner still can't get the power, I'd pull a valve cover and the front cover and check the cam timing. I would assume this cam should be installed straight up.

what kind of dyno was that?

if its a mustang dyno, your numbers are great.
if its a dynojet, you're down about 20hp from where you ought to be. what were the conditions on the day it was dynoed? what was the elevation?

Thanks...I'll check on those things. It has been very hot here in Charlotte, but I assumed they would have an inside, air conditioned facility. It is the one just opening in Mooresville, and they picked up and delivered the car. I am going up there soon to see the place. I can say that the car is a lot faster in the upper RPM ranges than it was, and it only has 1800 miles on it- maybe still a little tight. I know the guy that did the work has done a lot of LS1's and several LS2's as far as the cam goes, but not sure about the tuning...

Where in Mooresville and what's the name? I live in Mooresville but most people I have talked to have gone to Jeff in Durham for their tune? You should come out to the Wednesday night car fare at Brewster's on Williamson Rd.

I am also a happy customer with C.A.M. in Durham/Jeff the tuner.
My rear hp and torque went up 25/20 with a custom tune over my setup which was just Halltech and Magnaflow mufflers

If they have the same dyno that Mike had at More, then it use to read a little lower than others.

Where exactly is Nick's shop at? It'll be nice to have a corvette place local again!!!

Default Shop in Mooresville; Backyard Buddy now installed.

You can call Robert Wilkinson at 704-763-0657 He is in partnership with Nick. Robert used to do much of the engine work at More, and as I have mentioned before, he has always done a good job for me. The thing that I like about Robert is his passion for GM engines and Corvettes. When he was doing my car I would get updates frequently, and he spent a lot of time to road tuning the car before it went on the dyno, and then did a bit more. Perhaps it is the More dyno, and that's why the numbers are a little low. I intend to discuss it with him. I also remember him telling me he used HP tune.

I have never asked Robert for directions to the shop, but I will and will post, although I'm sure he would be willing to help any of you.

On another subject, I had a backyard buddy installed in my garage this week, and can now get my four cars in a three car garage. I am really pleased with it- although it does need some leveling work because of the slope of my garage floor. Oil changes on all my cars will be a snap!

I would like to post some pictures of the SL55 above the Vette but I am not that sophisitcated yet...if someone could help me with that I will.

Thanks to all of you for your input and advice. You are a great bunch of folks. Even when I was without a Vette (about 2 years of my 911 turbo stage, yes I modded that one too) I stayed in touch with this forum and missed having a Vette.
