Default interior heat

I seem to have alot of heat which is emanating from the gear shift apparatus. Is this normal? It makes summer driving uncomfortable and forces the A/C to be on all the time.

Yep, and it's worse in the MN6 C6s, although the A4s and A6s do get it a little.

You might look into a ceramic coated tunnel plate:

In general I can feel heat in C-6 A-4 interior is there an easy way to insulate against heat and outside noise?

Go to Lowes. Where they sell insulation, they have stuff that looks like bubble wrap that is coated with aluminum on both sides. It's only $20. Place it under your carpet and you will reduce heat and noise quite a bit. Also, the Tunnel Plate listed bu someone else helps as well.

Anyone here have some pics. I don't want to go tearing up the carpeting or interior but still would like to get a neat installation so it won't be that noticeable as it is silver in color.

Unfortunatlely it is normal....next time you have your C6 on a lift or jacked up, take a look at those two big @ss exhaust pipes running under the chassis. That's where the heat is coming from. I've installed one of the ceramic chassis plates that helps somewhat & you could install another layer of insulation in the cabin, but that means you have to pull the carpeting. From time to time, I also turn on the fan, set to the "feet" position (no A/C). That helps a bit too & doesn't put the drag of the compressor on the engine.

I often wonder how long the R-134 refrigerant will last since the air cond. is automatic and on most of the time.

Today is the first time I felt this heat, and to honest it was very nncomfortable. I've been out of the car now for an hour and I can still feel a odd feeling on the side of my leg. Besides the plate, is there anything else that can be done? (thin insulation doesn't seem to be useful) Will long tube headers make this even worse because the cats are going to be under there too?

The headers create extra heat

I have LG tubes and yes you can feel the heat especially when you get into the gas good. Just something I am willing to live with for right now.

Side pipes too get real hot. I prefer to just leave it factory.

Default Thanks

Thanks for the advice; I will order the ceramic coated shield. I'll probably get the stainless steel one. The heat is unbearable in the summer and you alway have to have the AC on. Does anyone know if the the dealer will install these products?

I installed two layers of thermal mat under the console and it worked worders. Took less than 1 hour, but, I was a console 'expert' as I'd R&R'd the shifter several times. It's worth the trouble.

Cool It, Koolmat tunnel heatshield fits the C6 and trust me, the console heat will go away. I installed mine in a hour and did not have to take of the pipes-the install of the shield would have been faster, but putting the pipes back in and getting the tips where I wanted them would have added 2 more hours.
