Default C6 is awesome!

Guys, I know our expectations are high. If not, we would not own Corvettes. As previous C4 owner and now C6 owner, I have been impressed with both. The LT-1 was incredible. The reliability and power/torque plus daily driveability is really incredible. For you mod guys, once you start tinkering with it, let's cut The General some slack. Now the LS-2, and further refinements are just as awesome. My
C4 was a '95 and now I own an '06 (Coupe , Z51, MN6). Wow!

Yesterday, our club provided a few cars as a novelty for a charity event in town raising money for children. Non Corvette viewers could not believe: the performance capabilities (0-60 times, lateral accel, 1/4 mile times, top speed etc), low weight, low price, high fuel economy, sexy looks.

Everyone that asked questions was impressed. The most impressive thing is "How much would I have to spend to get performance like this?"

And when you tell them (at least 2X) and give examples they don't even think those cars look as good.

I get it when things break, we all get angry. But things that are mechanical and electrical and this sophisiticated sometimes break. Even the BMWs, PORSCHEs, FERRARIs, whatever.

We got it pretty darn good. Go look at your car, let the oil get warm, drive it, push it, and exhilirate yourself. Then come back home, park it, look at it and walk inside glad you didn't spend 2X, can get parts, and don't have to drive 3 hrs to get it worked on.

I agree.

The C6 is a GREAT "BANG for the BUCK" car.

I love bang for the buck.

I grew up with 5.0 Mustangs.
I love 03 Cobras.
I have had many Vettes, but....

Make no mistake, the C6, C6 Vert, ($45K-$55K) and C6 Z06 (even for $65K-$70K) are among the BEST Bang for the Buck cars you can buy.

In fact, price not a factor, the C6 and C6 Z06 are among the BEST cars you can buy anywhere in the world.

Just remember to keep it factory stock as you will have less problems in the long run.

I think changing the exhaust is OK, no problems possible that way.

I just ordered a Vararam induction, that is safe also, and adds a nice kick.

More than that you can run in to problems, headers, midpipe, cams, superchargers, etc.. can void your warranty and cause possible driveability issues.

I have never heavily moddified any of my Vettes, I use my Mustangs for that

I would be careful with those induction air filter types that you have to oil because oil can get into MAF system and cause problems. I don't know if these induction systems that cost $400-$600 plus on the Corvette really make a difference. They are very costly.
I had a ram air system on my 5.0 before and it did help with gas mileage and gave it a better sound may have even run a little stronger but that only cost $139 it was made by March which also uses the K & N filter. Was a real pain at smog test time every 2 years as It wouldn't pass visual test but would pass the sniffer test.
Mustangs are easily modded if that's what you like to do and the parts are readily available with a long list of selections. Mustangs are just alot less in cost as far as parts go with lots of accessories available. Also I notice more restored older Mustangs than older Corvettes probably because cost of restoring those oldies Corvettes is very expensive compared to the Mustang.

LS WON -

Correct, the oil gets on the maf and causes problems, that is why every year or two I just buy another NEW pre-oiled filter for $50-75.

The problems come in when people re-oil their filter and use too much oil.

And everything was going so well until I read this one... Just kidding.
A friend at the track wanted me to promise him I'd never mod it, as he put it, "everything will be downhill from here." No promise though.

I'm on the fence about modding mine. I've been through countless F-bodies with many mods... and my last vette (ages ago) was a heavy-breathing screamer of a car. 400hp is still alot of fun, but a little short of what I truly crave. Set my adrenaline level to about 550-600hp and I'll be a happy puppy.

Problem is, this C6 is so well built (compared to any other pure sportscar I've ever been around). I'll put my C6 up against my Mercedes anyday. I was thoroughly impressed at how tight and quiet this Corvette is. The reliability factor as another consideration when (if) I mod the vette... it's a tough decision. I would hate to compromise anything this car has deliver thus far.

In the end - I feel the need for speed will win out, but cheers to the brethren who've found the one of the best sportscars in the world.

Default Same car

Mine is a VR Coupe, Z51, 6 sp. I only got one option; Z51. Picked it up 5-8-06, 1700 miles so far. Changed oil at 1200.

Anyway, other than the fear of a top problem (not yet) it has been perfect. I still just look at it. It exceeds my expectations. I have never owned a car this powerful. The handling, brakes, computer intervention capability (active handling, ABS) it's all incredible. I even love the stock exhaust.

I can see how you might get addicted to more (power, sounds, etc). I am just not going there. It's what I imagine straying on your wife would be like. I never was tempted because I was satisfied. But if you start down that road, it may never end.

I am very satisfied with this car. I'm easy I guess.

120%

Ironically I too went from a '95 LT1 to my '06 LS2.

Help me out with the options. I like HPDE's and auto-x. So Z51 seems to be a good choice. I was thinking 2LT as a worthwhile upgrade. What would you chose for options?

Personally, I enjoy the gadgets in my cars. The HUD and Navigation were high on my list. All who have sat in the car were thoroughly wowed by those features, but I do find them truly useful as well.

The Z-51 was a definite for me as well. The number of performance items added to the vehicle by this option seemed well worth it. I found the Z-51 ride quality was not nearly as bad as I had read (it's a matter of opinion I'm sure). I don't daily drive mine however, so perhaps that skews my judgement.

I think the HUD would be useful. Would the Navigation be useful, don't know. I trailer my current car now to events in case it breaks.

I find that I terribly miss not having a HUD in my other vehicles, now having it in the vette. The navigation is certainly not an everyday useful item, but it did help get me out of a jam when we went to go pick up my Dad's vette in some town I've never been to. The "Points of Interest" options are nice too. I've used this for finding restaraunts and coffee shops around town that I never realized existed.

If you take anything away from this though - the HUD is a great feature I would definitely recommend. I never look down at my gauges anymore. RPM, MPH, and a host of other things are right there. If you get the Navigation too, it displays your nav info on the HUD as well. Really slick feature.

To a few people on here reliability is a big issue with their new stock C-6. That being the case, I would hate to see what the reliability factor is when modded but probably more who do modifications that end up with more problems.
