It sounds like a good idea for a track car. Somebody found pictures of a wrecked C6 where the A-piller (windshield part) had folded down into the passanger compartment, while the B-Piller was still relatively intact. And of course the roof was nowhere to be seen. Having no possibility of roof leaving the car in roll over would be nice piece of mind.
I would hope when you make a C6 race car (not starting w/Z06 of course) you would do something like that.

Okay...that makes good sense. So how is the Z06 top attached? From a recent roof separation thread it appeared that the Z06 somehow incorporates the stock coupe panel into its fixed roof assembly.
Occasional track car is right, plus my friend does not want the top removable at all. He wants the structural integrity of a solidly attached panel. Even though the regular C6 clamping system is "snug", the ZO6 attachment system is solid.

So, does anyone have both cars and can answer?
Have your friend give John Caravaggio a call. They have been converting C6 Z06's into targa's (at least one and I think in process of doing ten) so he may have the hardware left over that your friend would need. Caravaggio is a forum vendor so contact info should be on the left side of the screen or in vendor tab.

Steve,
GREAT idea. Thank you. I knew someone would have the answer and I didn't think of calling Caravaggio.
Also, find the most recent service bulletin update (.pdf file somewhere on here) on the separating roof fix. It was modified to include Z06's and it has procedures for removing and installing the bolted on roof. Should provide some insight into what is involved.

The front of the Z06 roof frame is bolted directly to the windshield frame.
The back of the roof frame is bolted to metal tabs welded to the roll hoop (for lack of a better term). There are three tabs in back; the two outer tabs appear to be cast aluminum, and the center tab looks like a stamping.
The Z06 roof frame appears to be a different casting than the one used on coupes. I don't know if Chevrolet sells that part individually; you might need to get one from a salvage yard.
So in order to use the Z06 fixed roof, it looks like you will need to drill holes into the windshield header and weld in tapped inserts. In back, you will need to fabricate steel tabs similar to the aluminum ones used on the Z06 and weld them to the chassis.
