Default Battery Leaking?

I was doing some work the other day in which I had to remove the battery to get at a grommet behind it.

I noticed that the the battery hold down bolt was extremely tight to the point that I had to work it back and forth several times in order to get it to finally come loose.

Upon removing the battery, I discovered lots of clear fluid lying in the battery box. I also noticed some white fuzzy powder around some of the bolts near the box.

After doing my work and cleaning up the fluid on the box and the underside of the battery, I went to replace the battery hold down. Low and behold, the nut that the hold down bolt goes into was missing. I pull the battery back out and remove the batter hold down from the car to discover that the rivets holding the nut in place for the battery hold down bracket have sheared off and the nut has fallen.

I inspect the bolt and see that it is gaulled up pretty good.

Anyway, I get out my rivet gun and re-attach the nut to the battery box and then re-attach the box and then the battery.

The thing is, my car doesn't even have 3000 miles on it yet, and I'm wondering if this could be a pre-cursor to a dead battery in my future.
