My new 06 Corvette (752 miles) presented an interesting problem this weekend. After doing some shopping, I pulled my vehicle into my garage and attempted to shift into "Park" and shut down the vehicle. (Normal Procedure) I discovered I could not shift into Park. It was like the shifter/transmission locked up. A couple of times, I got as far as Reverse, but could not enter Park. I could shift to "D" or "S". I shut the vehicle down in "Neutral" and restarted the engine. I still could not shift into "Park". I tried this a number of times with no change. A message "Shift into Park" appeared on my DIC. I checked my owner's manual for possible problems and resolution and I found nothing that could be causing the problem. Upon trying to exit the vehicle, the door was locked, and had to be unlocked using the door button. Upon exiting, the horn beeped three times. I tried a number of times to restart and shift into "Park" - to no avail. I also noticed that on the 'Start Button' - the ACC light was on (yelloish orange in color) and the 'Shut Off' portion on the button (under the Circle: O) was blinking 'red'. I called OnStar and was connected with 'Roadside Assistance'. OnStar conducted an diagonstic and found nothing within their parameters. Neither OnStar nor Roadside Assistance could understand what was causing the problem. Later in the day, I noted that my Navigation screen was lite up. OnStar will setup an appointment with my local Chevy dealership for tomorrow.
This morning, I tried to access the vehicle and the FOB did not work. I presume the battery is dead.
Use the search function and look up "New to Vette need some advice" and "2 days and off on a flatbed." I experienced this exact problem with 600 miles on my new '06 coupe, and I believe Texvette has experienced it at least twice. The fix is a new shifter.

Had the same issue with my '05 Z51.. Issue started when I changed the leather surrounding my shifter to match my interior. Tapping the shifter to the left after moving it to park would shut down the vehicle and remove the "Shift to park message". I liked it cuz I could still have my music playing even after I shut down the vehicle then tap the shifter to the left if I wanted a complete shutdown..! What didn't make sense to me was that I could open up the hatch even when the "Shift to park message" was being displayed, only difference was that the car wouldn't go to complete shutdown.
Now that the leather around the shifter has grown softer, I lost that unique option .. :-S

Has anyone experienced this type of problem ?
Yes I have had the same problem still do till I take it in again for repair as they didn't find anything in the computer scan so it is probably a switch or something mechanical in the shifter. Mine is an 2005 C-6 A-4 but when I shift into park and it is in park on the DIC "Shift To Park" message appears what I usually do is jiggle the shifter and the message goes off.
Update: Finally got the vehicle into the dealer for problem analysis. Told them about my experience with you'll and your suggestion that it might be the shift assembly. Bingo !! That is what it was. However, it seems like the assembly was in "backorder", nationally. Not one available until this past Monday. Finally, got one and the car was returned to me with new shift assembly and new battery on Friday, July 14th. It is good that have "Nanette" back home !!

Thanks for all your support and advice .....
So far mine is a park/neutral switch attached to the transmission that needs replacing and is on order.
