I've been experiencing the c6 rear grinding/popping/chattering issues as many here have. My concerns are while I had it on the lift to drain and replace the fluid (step one on the tsb). I noticed the rear tires had chunks of rubber missing from the tread blocks on both rear tires. The tires where fine prior to the autox when I noticed the rear noises. I was wondering if maybe the rear was not allowing the inside axle to slip, therefore skidding the inside tire causing the issue I experienced. Any thoughts?
It may just be poor Z51 (F1 EMT SC) tire construction. I too got bad chunking on the inside section my LR tire. Then the center section of the tread began to peel away, right down to the cords. Outside tread blocks still had 2/32, but I had to junk the tire. Alignment is 100% correct and car has not seen competition driving. Zero diffy problems.
John at CCWheel told me that that GY has had two problems with these tires. The first is a major issue with heat buildup in the EMT carcass which was severe enough to preclude the production of a 345 width tire for the Z06. The second problem is poor QC until 2006, so certain tires just fall apart. It is clear from my LR tire that the tread was molded TOTALLY out of round. The other three tires are perfect.
