Here are a couple of night photos from Sebring this year. It looks to me like the front brakes are doing a lot more of the braking.

What a great way of showing why front brakes are larger! A picture is worth a 1000 words, excellent job.

because front brakes DO do all the work.

On my 3/4 ton suburban, its a 97, gig 13" dia x 3" wide rear drum brakes - never changed them yet in 130,000 miles. set 6 on the front.
even the piston in the master cylinder pushes more to the front.

By the way.. i just put Baer brakes on on my C6, and now my Rear are actually Larger than the front. Because the rear caliper is smaller, it can be pushed out further, and allow a larger rotor.

if i could figure how to post a pic... i would.

If you get the Baer two piece rotars, the rears are larger.

Upload the photo(s) to a free hosting site like Photobucket and then copy and paste the photos "IMG" link from that site into your post here. It's that simple!

Because the fronts have to dissipate the most heat. When stopping, weight transfers forward, so the front brakes have to carry about 70% of the braking load while the rears contribute about 30%. Ideally, the fronts should be about twice as large as the rears. That would minimize unsprung rotating weight, which helps performance and handling, while still allowing the brakes to do their jobs. But there isn't room to make the fronts much bigger, and the rears have to be large enough to accomodate the parking brake drums. So they wind up closer to the same size than would be ideal from a performance standpoint.

Good point. If you have to much brake on the rear, the "unloaded" rears will tend to lock up and then you lose control.

That's why the Z51 package has a 4 mm smaller piston in the rear calipers, so it can't squeeze the rears as hard and cause early lockup.

Whoops! Indeed 13.35s in the front. 14s in the rear.

Mine too, but of course that's purely for "bling"!

Here are before-n-after pix of my F55 rear wheels.

Not totally bling.

I push my Vette hard. With the stock brakes, I could smell em even inside the car. The difference after I changed em out (added ceramic pads as well) was pretty amazing. This thing stops much better.

(However, I wonder if it was the pads more than the the rotors)

Will the Baer 6S calipers fit these rotors and a C6?
