Default Can't Chirp 3rd gear?

Why can't I chirp 3rd gear in my 2005 Z51 6 speed coupe? And don't say learn how to drive! I have had many other cars with less power and have been able to chirp 3rd gear but in my C6 all I get is a little sqweak noise, and it's not coming from the tires. Does this mean my clutch is no good?

Thanks
Mike

Maybe that conbined with the fact the run flats don't give up much sound....they will not squeal like many other types of tires will.

One way to check if they actually are spinning is to leave TC-on and just accelerate with a throttle squeeze in 2d. Then watch the DIC on the 2-3 shift and see if "TC-active" appears.

That technique worked on a C5Z to prove that the tires were breaking loose on the 2-3 at about 70, the 3-4 at about 100 and even the 4-5 at about 145.

Of course, TM rears its head on strong shifts in a C6.

I had run flats on my 2001 vette and it had no problem braking the wheels loose!

I wouldn't expect to be able to chrip 3rd if youre tires are in good shape. Those supercars grip VERY well. I may have chriped 3rd on a couple of occasions, but probably when the pavement was a little cold.

If you really want to chirp 3rd, then you should POWERSHIFT

he's at a prep'd track. I think he was asking in general why he couldn't chirp 3rd.

I'm sure this has a to do with torque management.

CYA, I'm just curious, did you end the 1/4 in 3rd gear or did you end in 4th. The clip ended with you in 3rd.

Default Chirpping fourth!!!

My 05 Z51 has a fairly fresh set of Toyo Proxes T1R's on the rear, which grab a whole lot more traction than the Supercars ever did. They also make a lot more squalling sound to let me know when I'm pushing it to break point in a turn. Point is: you're probably spinning slightly with those rock hard Supercars but dont hear as well. If you're hearing the belt squeal when shifting hard, you doing a good job! Be sure to turn off tc and ac for the best power! On mine it makes a difference from barely hearing 3rd to hearing fourth at 100mph!!!

The non Z51 mn6 cars will run through the traps in 3rd (stock). Which is why I believe that non Z51 cars are just as quick in the quarter mile (one less shift). Unfortunatley, so few non Z51 guys have run bone stock cars in the 12.3's that theory is not believed.

You hit the nail in the head, it is deffinetly more like a belt squeal. What is that?

I think I have proof that you are 100% correct about the non-Z51 being faster. My 01 Z28, when I shifted to 4th at the top end, I'd run 112. When I just let it bump the rev limiter in 3rd gear it would run faster at 112.7. Then I upped the rev limiter and I could run through the lights in 3rd gear at 113.75. All the Z51 guys swear that extra shift doesn't cost them, but they are all living in their little Z51 Dream World!

Thats what I thought.
I need to be in 4th gear for a decent 1/4 time [mine's a Z51].
I tried the 1/4 and the rev limiter hit in 3rd, right before the finish line.
