Default What's in a Tune?

I hear big mystery word "get a tune" all over the place and see HP claims, but not a single person has said what was adjusted. What are the goals of a tune? Perfect stoichiometry, under all conditions? What's different about mail order chips "tuned", ie no dyno?

What do you do to make it "tuned"? If I wanted to do a tune myself, on a 2006 Z06 where whould I look to get more power from "my tune"

extra timing if the motor can take it, lean out a/f to around 12.8-13 under wot again depends on what the motor can take, remove tm or make it less, goal of the tune to get the hp/tq that you are suppose to get due to TM and to gain hp/tq. becareful with tuners that likes to lock out ECM.

Yes, a custom tune can give more power because it can individually optimize your engine. The factory supplies a tune that will work in all engines on your platform. That tune will leave a bit on the table in the name of safety and longevity. A mail order tune get a little more hp out of all engines. But only a custom tune for your car specifically can get it all.

In my opinion, the greatest benefit of a tune is to get rid of all the little "tics" that we pick up as we mod our cars. Tics being "hunting idles", surging on the highway, and other little annoyances. A good tuner can get almost all of the negative aspects under control.

Is there any way some can elaborate on an HP Tune? Table settings and what other changes that should be made. I would like to ask these questions of my tuner for when they get the car this week.

Will a 'tune' void the warrantee, if something happens to the engine ?

OK, so let's say I want to diminish TM for example. And I want to do it myself to learn and save $$. Do I raise the max torque tables per gear up? I am sure there are other things. I'm not so sure how to increase the timing, not sure how to do much of anything, but willing to try.

save $$$?
I could be wrong, but i think the equipment would cost you more than just having someone do it. Besdies, tuning is for the advances and you really dont wanna be experimenting on your car... at least I wouldnt..
