Default B&M or Callaway?

Ok I've seen alot written on both of these. I can get a B&M for alot cheaper but I certainly want the best. Which of these short throw shifters should I go with? I'm leaning towards the Callaway and hoping they will eventually do a group buy.

Recently installed the B&M on my 05 C6. Here are my observations so far:

1. Easy install. Took me about an hour, including the time spent removing the console for the second time after I couldn't access one of the electrical plugs I needed to replug. All parts required for installation included in the kit with a very good instruction booklet.

2. Well made unit. Quality materials.

3. Offers advantage of being able to use the existing shifter ****, which I personally like.

4. Cheaper than the Callaway or the Hurst (paid $180 for mine from a CF vendor - could find the Hurst at about the same price, but you have to buy a shift **** for around $25).

5. Shifter seems a little stiff to me right now. I haven't put a lot of miles on it since I installed it, so hoping it will loosen up a little as it wears in. Like the positive feel of shifting under acceleration, not quite as happy with the feel when I'm "granny shifting." Definitely shortens the stock throw.

6. Had heard complaints about tranny noise, rattling under acceleration, etc. Have not experienced any of those (I decided to keep the stock rubber bushings where the shifter mounts to the torque tube/car as opposed to installing B&M's plastic bushings. Instructions said this would result in less vibration, so I opted to do this).

HTH.

I have the B&M and it is coming out when they install my supercharger. Going to replace it with the Callaway. Reason: vibrations, vibrations and vibrations. Love the short shifting, but the noise when winding out and when just shifting thru the gears has gotten to me.

Funny thing is that my mod shop recommended the Callaway, but .......

I just called B&M and they told me that they made a change and the new ones are not like the old ones. They said that they put an isolater in to take out the vibration. My direct question then was, is one built today the same as a year ago? They said no, but did not say when the change took place.

I sold my B&M shifter after waiting 2 months for the factory to replace the old one with the correct model that the factory **** would fit on. I purchased Callaway's new short throw shifter for the OEM ****. Its perfect!! No vibrations, factory **** fits like a glove, and the short throws are out of this world.

That's what I'm doing, except they are taking the B&M out of my C6 and replacing it with the Callaway. glad to hear you are pleased.

Default B&M vs. Callaway shifter

Last week after doing some seaching around here on the Forum I decided to try out the Six Shooter from MTI Racing. I flat out love this shifter. Short firm shifts with no slop and no buzzing. Check out what other people say here. It seems nobody has a bad thing to say about it

I have reluctantly concluded that there are too many variables in the individual car, installation etc., to reliably predict which will be better. I have a c5 and was deciding between these two shifters, and e-mailed Calloway, telling them that my main concern was rattling under heavy accelleration. They told me their shifter would have more of a precision feel than the B&M, but that the B&M probably was probably somewhat less likely to rattle because of the isolated upper stick. I was actually very impressed by their candor--since obviously different drivers have different priorities. I now read some of the above posts--and am more confused than ever.

I replaced the B&M with a Callaway..B&M made too much noise...buzzing/rattling....never going back..the Callway is very nice, not as quiet as stock..but acceptable.

Sorry if I caused any confusion in my answer to your question. I thought you were indicating that you wanted to ensure you'd have absolutely zero drivetrain noise (or rattling as it's referred to here) with the new shifter that you planned to install.

Most people are very pleased with the Callaway Shifter operation, as you can see in this thread. You can also see that excessive noise doesn't usually occur. The point I was trying to make earlier was that I couldn't guarantee that installing a Callaway Shifter in your particular Corvette would result in zero noise. (I'd rather forfeit a $295 sale than mislead you.) So, if you wish to ensure zero noise, and that's more important to you than optimizing the shifting function, the new B&M might be a better choice.

I agree. Calloway makes some nice stuff also. MTI really cares about their product and even will call you after delivery to make sure your happy with the product, etc.

As an FYI, I am still waiting for my email from calloway regarding a question about a finish blemish on my Honker. The Honker is an awesome product.

MCV--It wasn't you that confused me, rather it was the varying experiences of people on this thread. As I think I mentioned, I was very impressed by your response to my e-mail. By the way, I have a Honker--and love it !

is the MTI a short throw shifter?? cant tell from video (shifter handle looks weird - plus its a C5)

i have a B&M and keep missing 3rd - not all the time though - only on my bad days...

thinking about a stock Z06 or an MTI..... the ability to get it in gear is more important that the short pattern at this point....

today is the first i've heard about the MTI shifter...

thanks for the post and info....
