Default Loud AC

Anyone else have a problem with loud almost siren like sound when engine is hot and ac is running full? Just started at 3000 miles. Local dealer says it is normal sound!

does it happen right around when you shift gears? (1-2,2-3)
because my car started doing the same thing 4 days ago (3590 miles)
seems when i turn the A/c down to try to hear it , it doesnt do it..
does it seem like it is comming from under the hood?

Double-check the outlet setting. Mine's quite loud when its set to bi-level (both dash and floor vents) and the fan is running fast. Much quieter when its just using the dash vents. Not that its exactly quiet at full fan anyway, but it does cool well so I can forgive that.

It happens when ac is running on high and is definitely coming from under the hood. It is so loud you can hear it half a block away.

I think that happens to mine too, as I don't use the AC too often.
I know if I just use the floor vents, its quiet.

Is it belt squeal? Perhaps the belt tensioner isn't doing it's job, and the belt is slipping under the compressor load. Just a thought?

That's a good bet. Mine has 11500 miles on it and it's been hot lately and I have no unusual noise coming from mine.

I was plagued with squeeling belts on my C5. I replaced the tensioners, etc. I eventually replaced all of the belts with Gatorbacks. That did it.

it doesnt always do it, really only with the A/C on either high or close to it. It kinda feels like the car has some drag to it when you hear the noise..

I find the sound to be annoyingly loud on high with recirculate and the smell is not bad, but noticably irritating. It's really been stinking hot here so I'm running it constantly. Only 500 miles on my '07 so maybe it needs a little more breaking in.

Sound is definitely coming from motor. It happens when a/c motor kicks into high gear. Dealer actully simulated this and happened when motor was at 80%. Once that happened, dealer said, yep, that is normal happens on every 06 vette. Until, I can get to a different dealer, I guess I will just wait and hope a/c moter goes out all together and get a new one.
