I have been researching companies to put a clear bra on my 05 C6, the cost quotes have been from 500 for 3M to 625 for Avery. Do any of you guys know which is better? Both companies are trying to sell me their product and telling me negative things about the other. Any of you guys with Avery clear bras or 3M bras please give me some advice.
Thanks
Robert
From my research, both 3m and Avery have clear coats on them. As my installer said, it all comes down to the skill of the installer if you want it to look good. check out their website, there are a lot of useful info on there. www.premiermobilegroup.com
I have 3M on my black C6. In my opinion anything other than 3M is inferior. I did research as well. 3M has a great warranty, you will probably get rid of the car b/f any yellowing starts, and all the films will yellow over time and they test it by shooting pea gravel at it at 60 to 70 mph. Check their website, I believe there is video of it.
I have X-Pel (3M) on mine (just installed today!) It is also on my BMW (for 3.5 years now) and was on my C5. Never had a problem. Will NEVER be without it on my cars. Be sure of your installer. The C6 upper bumper kit is rated 5 Stars for installation difficulty (1 is the easiest).

I have the Avery clear bra and I'm very happy with it. It has more of an orange peel effect than 3M. My finish has orange peel and they seem to blend together quite well (Precision Red). I've seen both and really can't say I prefer one over the other. It's all about the installer in my opinion. I've heard 3M is harder to put on than Avery. I'd find an installer you are comfortable with and go with his opinion. BTW - I paid like $800 to have the hood, upper/lower bumper, wheel wells, mirrors and rocker panels. Good luck
Excuse my ignornance i dont understand what you mean by orange peel, can you please explain this to me, and tell me if you had the option would you put 3M or avery?
Thanks

Orange peel is a term used to describe the paint surface on a car. When the paint is applied it does not come out smooth like glass, it comes out a bit rippled (like the skin on a orange). If you look at the surface, close up at a angle you'll see it (at least on mine). You'll also see that the Avery tape is a bit orange peeled (supposedly because of the way it is stretched during production). As far as the tape to use - I would give the Avery a 10 on every place I have it except the hood (then it goes to a 8). I'm happy with the Avery and would recommend to anyone considering it. Have a piece of Avery and 3M put on your car. A installer can put a temporary piece on your hood - you can judge for yourself. Make sure to look horizontal down the hood line - see which ones hides better.
I have the avery. i like it but a little dirt and rain and it you really notice it. First time I used a clear bra. My experience is you have to keep after it, in terms of waxing, or it looks bad. I saw the 3m and the avery on cars, and the 3m has a yellow tint to it. I saw it on a white car and you can clearly see how yellow it is on a white car. I would go with avery.
