muffler question

Look, the OEM mufflers are quiet and high flow. That takes engineering effort. The aftermarket mufflers are just loud.
In short, there isn't anything wrong with some of the cheap (price) mufflers just because they're a cheap price.
I read many reports on here about some of the cheaper systems and the drone is not too bad. This depends on the driver, I am very sensitive to any drone. It drives me fricken batty. I even here a little with the corsa sport, almost too much for my tastes. But I have had magna flows and flowmansters on C5's and other vehicles and I believe Corsa is in a class of their own when it comes to the drone issue. Not putting these systems down, but for me they drone too much. With that said you give up a little on sound quality with the Corsa to get the no drone effect. But at WOT the Corsa sport sounds as good as any system I have heard.
Not sure what tranny you have but if you do not like the drone sound I bet a cheaper system would not have made you happy.
I am thinking about adding a 3 inch resonator to my xpipe to defeat the little drone that is left. I tried the Lloyd mat with dynapad under but did not really do much for the drone. I even put in the divider. These techniques do help with road noise but are not very effective for drone. I also have the abs of aluminum.
In fairness to Corsa I should mention I have the original Corsa sport on the A6, not the new one designed for the A6. If I had that system there would be no drone, but it would not fit with my LG pro's and xpipe.
If most people would hear my set up they would say I don't hear any drone. But I do hear it and it bugs me a little. Everyone that has taken a ride with me says it sounds great and they can not here drone. But it rattles my teeth when I hit that rpm band just right, (1600rpms under load).
I know my post contradicts itself a little. But Corsa does the best job with drone, but I am hyper sensitive to the frequency. I have very sharp ears, probably to make up for my eye sight.
In the Air Force I used to get perfect scores on the hearing test (22 years), any flyer's in here will tell you that is unheard of.

The Magnaflow 15884 is a complete SS rear system, hence the price. The other, cheaper Magnaflow stuff you see people posting about are bare mufflers that have to be welding into your stock rear section.
As others have posted, the Flowmaster system is aluminized mild steel, so it's much cheaper.
I've never paid $1k for any of the systems that I've tried on my C6 (B&B x2, Corsa, Magna x2, etc.), you just have to shop around. I paid $799 for the Magnaflow I'm running right now, bought it from Tbyrne here on the forum as part of a group purchase. In my eyes (and ears!), it's easily worth $300-$400 more than some of the other, cheaper systems.

The DRONE...discusting!!! Seems to drone around 1300-1800 pretty bad. It actually hurts my ears to the point where I can't think straight. Above 2500 rpm they sound awesome...!!!!! Another thing... seemed to lose some low end punch....maybe it's just me since I seem to have a headache after 5 minutes in the car now. May not....I don't know.
The wife hears me come up the street a block away. I can't sneak come anymore. The neighbors probably hate me since most of these yuppies are mini-van loving females don't appreciate american muscle. But their husbands drool over it. I also suspect that more neighbors will yell at me for speeding b/c the car "sounds like" it is going 60 through the neighborhood, even though the speedo claims 25.
On the positive side....got a great deal....I believe it was around $350 shipped....but hell, perhaps I should have kept them stock. Something in between the stock system and flowmasters would have been ideal. All well....live and learn.
Just my 2 cents.....

I'm still waiting on my car but I should be able to install my Magnaflow mufflers next wekeend. While I've been waiting I went out and got a B+B X-pipe with high flow cats.
I've heard some people say installing an aftermarket X actually made the car quite and reduced the popping noises you get when you let off the throttle. Can any one varify this? I was under the impression that the less restrictive cats and aftermarket X would make it a little louder.

What was the inlet /outlet sizes on these mufflers?
Thanks,
Rick
