My 2005 C6 has always felt a little sluggish compared to my 2004 Z06.
I never liked the way my air filter covers looked. They appeared to severely restrict airflow to the filters. I decided to do something about it. I cut 1-1/2" off the inboard end of both covers (without cutting through the cover base). Then I used my hole saw to cut three 1-3/4" holes in the outboard ends of the top overall cover.
Definitely improved performance in the 2k to 4k rpm range. Now my 2005 C6 feels as snappy as my 2004 Z06 was.

This is a similar mod that was done on the C5's by cutting the opening in the air box. The stock air box is known to be far too restrictive and hence the popularity of the cold air induction systems. If you have any areas where you have now exposed the OEM paper filter to the elements be careful and do not let any water get to them. The OEM paper filter will turn to pulp if it gets wet and it will suck into the MAF or worse.

Cheaper than the $318 I paid for the K&N Aircharger, but same idea--and result!
Let your engine breath.

I assume that you took the rain guard cover off entirely as well right?

UPDATE: I have one of the earliest C6s...took delivery in Sept. 2004. I just looked under the hood of my buddy's brand new C6. The air filter covers are already cut back on both ends compared to the stock condition of my own covers. So, unless you own a very early C6, my $0.00 performance enhancement does not apply.
