I just got the MidAmerica CAGS eliminator part for my 2006 C6. MidAm's instructions say that first you have to disconnect the negative battery lead. But I've also read Bugman's very complete installation instructions for the CAGS eliminator and he doesn't call for that.
Two questions, please. First, do you have to disconnect the negative lead? Second, if so, do you lose your seat memory, radio presets, have to reindex the windows, etc.
You do not have to disconnect the battery, but it is a common safety practice to do so. If you choose not to disconnect the battery, make sure everything is turned off.
If you do disconnect the battery, I think all you have to do when it is reconnected is to index the windows.

I didn't disconnect my battery and everything worked out with no problems.
It is a simple plug in and there is virtually no way you could short it. Besides, if I am not mistaken, the CAGS is not powered unless the car is running so stick it in, tie wrap it and enjoy.
I installed mine over a month ago without disconnecting the battery. Everything works great but I wish I could turn off the 1-4 light. By the way does anyone know if this will void the warranty?
An aftermarket part does not void the warranty unless that part specifically caused the problem.
I.E. If your check engine light is on and the dealer diagnoses that the CAGs defeat module is bad causing the light, they would have every right to charge you for the repair.
So if you were having trouble shifting or the check engine light was on, may be a good idea to remove the CAGS defeat and plug the harness back in. Drive it for a week and any codes associated with the CAGs will clear themselves if your CAGs defeat module was causing the codes and light. If the light doesn't eventually go out, it takes a couple drive cycles, then the problem is not related to your aftermarket module.
The 1-4 skip shift light will still come on even with a CAGs defeat module. That module is only a 2.2K Ohm resistor tricking the computer to thinking the CAGs harness is still plugged in.
You can save yourself twenty bucks and just stick a 2.2K Ohm Radio Shack resistor in the female end of the harness. More reliable too, no connections or wiring to fail. Here is a link to the 50 cent Radio Shack mod on an F-body, same trans in a Vette. http://www.installuniversity.com/ins...adio_shack.htm
