Default Transmission fill question

I spilled a lot of tranny fluid when I did a cam swap today. What kind of fluid is in the c6? I want to top off what is already in the car. Is it a special GM fluid? It was green. Also, do you just fill it until the fluid comes out the fill hole when the car is level?

Thanks in advance.

spin, i don't know why you are seeing green, when i change out mine it was red. i put in mobil syn ATF, and yes fill it until the fluid comes out the fill hole with the car running (so the pump can pump out the air pockets, assuming you have z51)

Sorry it was more of a purple but it could be red if seen in small amounts. It is a 2005. Is that dex 3 or 4?

sorry, of top of my head i think it is 3 for the manual and 4 for the auto, the manual can verified this. is your car auto or manual? if it is manual, and you want syn fluid in mobil there is only one choice. not sure why GM would call for a non syn fluid for the tranny.

Dexron 3 (h) currently in your car?
GM is now using Dexron 6 a semi-synthetic transmission fluid.

This is for a 2005 A-4 automatic. If it's green it sounds like conventional anti-freeze. I know ours is orange.
