Default Halltech or Callaway

Looking for more air and a little more sound. Both systems clain increases in HP Callaway 15 and Halltech 11. Any feedback wood be welcome. Also ease of install.
Thanks in advance

Default intake

I've heard raves for both.It seems to me that if the setup is the same for both,I.E. cutting the shroud, getting outside air, etc.than price should be the only factor. What your gain will actually be with this mod alone remains to be seen.I bought a precut shroud(stock,i think) and i'll cut some stuff in there for lots less than 400 bucks and achieve more or less the same results.

I went with the LPE. I don't have baseline numbers but with this and magnaflow mufflers two pulls on the dyno gave me 364 rwhp and 358 rwt, corrected. The LPE was 50 bucks cheaper than the callaway. I think these two are the best products out there.

I really believe that the magnaflow mufflers are making a substantial amount of horsepower for the buck. 364rwhp is excellent with just these minor mods. No tune correct?

3-5 HP difference is essentially immeasurable due to errors on the dyno.

I went Calloway and would do it again.

We have also seen nice gains from the Callaway cold air and magnaflow catback exhaust for C6's.

If I didn't want to cut the shroud, I'd choose the Halltech (which I did). If I wanted to cut the shroud, I'd get a Honker - they are really well engineered and fabricated. Your choice.

Precut shroud

Good people at LPE making good stuff. But I expect that is true of Callaway as well.

I had the Callaway installed and got a noticeable improvement in SOTP acceleration feel and a great sound. It looks good, too. I would do it again.

My question is: Would it not be the same to keep the OEM intake and cut the shroud? What is the advantage of buying a new intake?

I like my Halltech but from the SOTP and 1/8th mile results, it gave me nothing in the hp department.........or at least not enough to see it in the 1/8th.

This would be an effective route. The David Farmer mod takes this one step farther, rotating and swapping the stock filter mounts so they project into holes he cuts in the shroud, then he seals around them with aluminum and sticky tape.

The advantage to buying a new intake is that you support forum vendors, who then continue to buy advertising to support our forum . . . . .

As long as it doesn't look "hacked"- sounds good. I'd be curious to see how claims of 11hp-15 hp (posted above) are derived, then just cut the shroud with OEM intake and my guess is the same 11-15 hp, and $400 for other mods.

Not exactly. Both the Lingenfelter and Callaway are sealed to the hole in the shroud, thus allowing positive pressure built up in the frontal area at speed to be transmitted to the throttle body. David Farmer's modification to the stock air box is also sealed to the shroud opening. Also the Callaway bridge was designed with laminar airflow in mind, thereby reducing some resistence. The bottom line is that if you want to make a positive pressure intake, you will have to seal it to the opening in the shroud.
