C6 Cat Elimination
Questions: (1) Does anyone make a ORP that just elimiates the cats (bolts to the two stock flange ends) or do I need to have this custom made?
(2) Does anyone know of a device/adapter that tricks the computer into thinking the O2 sensors are working properly in this scenario? If you buy an off-road exhaust sustem from Ford Motorsports for a Mustang, they supply an adapter for the O2 sensors that keeps the codes from being thrown. Does Chevy or someone else make one of these for the C6? Thanks.
Might have to be custom made for now but try Mufflex in Trenton, NJ ( www.mufflex-performance.com ), they make them for C5s and LS1 F-bodies.
And I think a set of O2 sims might help with the potential PCM issues that might occur with deleting cats, that or some simple programming with LS2 Edit/HP Tuners/EFI Live etc.
If all your doing is removing the cats, I doubt there is any noticeable gain to be realized. The factory cats aren't much of a restriction on a stock system, they flow just fine.
Jump up to long tube headers, and a decent muffler system and you will get an noticeable bump in grunt. Then maybe there is a bit more to be gained with an ORP or high flow aftermarket cats.
That was from the late 70's and 80's when the stock cats were so restrictive it was popular to put an off road pipe in there. Today's vette cats are pretty much matched to the flow of the rest of the exhaust system. I think you doing a lot of work for a miniscule gain.
