Default XM Module Question

Installed an OEM XM module I picked up in Carlisle yesterday.

My car has the NAV unit but without the XM.

Worked fine for a few minutes getting all the preview channels. Head unit recognized the module and gave me the selections XM1/XM2

Went to fire the car up after listening for several minutes and got "XM LOCKED".

Apparently, while the head unit will recognize the module hooked into it, the XM module itself is locked????? The rest of the radio works fine.

Nearest I can figure is that module must have a theft deterrent feature of it's own, in addition to the car's head unit?????

Anyone encounter this problem before, and if so, what did you do??

Any other ideas or suggestions are welcome.

Tried disconnecting the battery for a few minutes, and even unplugging the module itself. It then gives me the previews again, but after a couple key cycles, it goes to XM locked again.

How do I unlock it for good??

This sounds strange. So you never had XM in your car? What was in the soft xm button location before?

Considering something needs to be reprogrammed (i forget exacty which computer) to recognize XM when not stock - it sounds like your xm started to work, but then realized it didnt have the right code, so it lockhed you out.

I would goto the dealer and them them to enable the XM option on the radio.

Did you Call and activate XM ???
Curious because someone is looking to purchase my XM module and before I sell it I want to make sure it will work for them.

When if first happend I didn't even realize it. I turned off the accessory mode and went back into the house to get the phone to call XM.

Before I dialed them up, I started the car up to retrieve the ID code for XM service.

Thats when I got the XM LOCKED message on the radio.

I thought that it was because I had gone for so long just listening to the freebies while I buttoned everything back up. So I disconnected the battery for a few minutes and reconnected it.

The XM came back up again with the preview channels and I went ahead and made the call to XM. The activation takes 20 minutes on that channel 1. But the car won's stay in acccessory mode for that long, so it shut off a few minutes after I had called and completed the transaction.

I went to restart the accessory mode and got the XM LOCKED message again. So I had to call them back and cancel the subscription.

Meantime, I looked at the NAV radio owners manual and it mentions something about this message. It mentions that if a new RADIO or another radio from a different car is installed that this message can come up. But it does not say that if a new XM module is installed that this message comes up.

Apparently it does.

I did a little searching of my own and found this. Its a bit outdated but nontheless, here it is.

Now I had heard talk on this forum of people having to do such a thing with the NON NAV radio. That is go to the dealer and have him reprogram the BCM. But not with the NAV radio.

Also found this http://www.myradiostore.us/xm-radio-...-xmdgm100.html

"NOW AVAILABLE FOR 2004-2005 CHEVY EQUINOX, CADILLAC DEVILLE, and SRX/CTS (without navigation)! SRX installation requires radio re-programming which must be done by your Cadillac dealer. Select the Special versions below when ordering."

Once again, the reprogramming seems to be a requirement for non NAV radios

And to answer the question, what was in the XM1/XM2 space up until today? Nothing. That space is blank on a non XM NAV head unit. You only have FM1 FM2 AM CD. However, now that the module is plugged in, I have all the options, FM1/FM2, CD, AM and now XM1/XM2. Only when I select either of those, I get the six or eight preset categories, but with the words XM LOCKED at the top of the screen.

I have a non-Nav radio (1 SB in an '05 coupe) into which I installed an XM module from and '06 Vert. Same symptons as yours but I had the local Master Corvette Mechanic reprogram the BCM in the car and the XM module has worked ever since.

I would tend to think that the Nav radios, also operating on the CAN bus would require the same reprogramming to activate the XM module.

Who did you buy the XM Module from? How much? I want to add one to my 05 with the 6 disc Bose system.

Dealer has to call some GM place and get A WHICHAMACALLIT NUMBER so the radio recognizes the XM STUFF.

Check this link. I ended up removing the XM module because it interfered with the NAV unit. It may be possible to move the module to an area to the left of the drivers foot to reduce the interference, but I haven't tried it yet. Kevin

Default I got this info straight from a guy w/a succesful install.

Okay, let's make sure that we are on an equal footing. I have an '05 with the 1SB package that equates to an '06 3LT. If that is the case, the radio has a button marked "BAND" on it as the left-most button below the channel display. If you got one of these, its a real no-brainer. Step#1 - remove the left hand rear window strut rod - there is a locking clip at the bottom of the strut - just pull it out/off (your choice). Remeber to support the rear glass 'cause one strut is not strong enough to hold it up. Step #2 - pull the rear speaker enclosure out a little and then pull the interior carpeting out behind it. You will see a little shelf with a blue/white plug lying there. Put the plug on the XM module. Step #3 - plug your XM antenna into one of the two antenna ports on the module. (I placed my micro antenna on the top of the rear glass and used a hot glue gun to stick it on). Note that if you use this procedure you will have to run the cable from the top down to the radio, not the other way. I stuffed the excess coax behind the plastic speaker enclosure and away I went. Step #4 - get the BCM reprogrammed to reflect the new system and activate the radio with XM. As I said earlier it make take several (some have said up to 40) start cycles to get the programming to hold.
Hope this helps.

I would bet you're right about a theft lock thing. Probably has the original vin programmed in some flash memory and when it didn't match yours, went to lock. Same as my T/A's Monsoon setup--only works in the car it came in. I bet they can reflash with your vin and that should solve the problem.

That's the correct answer.....VIN is programmed as an anti theft measure !
Sadly, most dealers aren't interested in reprogramming

You are exactly right. Most dealers aren't interested in reprogramming it. I had no luck at all.

Default XM Module

I just got back from the Chevy dealer after installing the XM module from another 05. When XM1 or XM2 is selected, the radio reads "XM Locked". They could not get it to unlock. Anyone know the fix?

Shopdog said after 3 tries the module has to go back to the factory to be cleared. Chevy dealer is checking?
