Default Radar Detector Mounting

I have a 2005 Coupe and have been using my Passport 8500 x 50 by placing it on the dash and it seems to work however I would like to know if it will perform better it mounted higher.
Also
If mounting it higher I am considering the visor or mirror mount with the InvisiCord. Due to the possibility of theft I most likely will remove the detector when parked. Will the removal be easy with the InvisiCord?

I would appreciate comments from those who are or have had dectors in their cars.

Thanks for your help!

I remove mine all the time when I park. It is mounted on a Great Lakes mirror mount with an Invisicord to the mirror for power. When I installed the Invisicord I used a small cable tie to secure the upper end to the mirror power cord to make sure it wouldn't pull loose. I just unplug the Invisicord at the detector, tuck it up between the mount and the mirror and slide the detector out. This keeps the cord out of sight. I've been doing this for 10,000+ miles with no problems. It's quick and convenient.

I went with the visor mount. I don't know if it performs any better or worse, I would think higher is better. Putting in the visor mount also cleared my field of vision up somewhat, and it's harder to spot from the outside. I also believe there are a few states that have laws regarding hanging things off your inside rear view mirror.

Good luck,
Don

You can do a search for the item you are interested in.

I purchased this for my C6 and have never looked back

Higher is better but with the greater sensitivity of the new dectectors I don't think it really matters. Velcro works for me.

Higher is better, technically. I did some tests and the difference between high W/S and low W/S was virtually undetectable. Mine is high just so it's harder to see from ouotside.

i dont have proof, but im pretty sure that you are not getting close to optimal perfomrnace with it mounted where it is, especially for the rear detector
