I have a C6Z. Love it! My third Vette. Never had this issue with the others. Nor did I have the problem with this car until it went to the GM dealership for the new roof recall. My difficulty recenty has been, I'll start to fill up, Always fill up. And the pump noozle will kick off before the tank is full. I have always stopped fueling as soon as it kicks off the first time. And the first time this happened that's what I did. Left the station and drove way with less than a full tank. Didn't think much about it at first. Thought it strange but, maybe just the pump at that station. Now it's getting to me. Doesn't matter where I stop for gas same thing. Start fuelling and bang kicks out. Try it slower, no, still kicks out. The last time I filled up it took me 10-20 trys to get the tank full.
Anyone out there with the same problem. A fix, ideas or posible solution?
Try withdrawing the nozzle from the fuel neck about 1/4-1/2 inch. This using stops premature shut-off.
Did you have to say premature?
I've had the opposite effect when filling my 07. I stuffed in the nozzle as far as it would go. It clicked off and I tried to add another .30 cents or so to get to an even dollar. After another nickle or so the gas was up into the neck and nearly ran over.
There is a service bulletin on a fix for the problem. My ZO did the same thing. I went to the dealer and was told the part was on B/O. I haven't heard a thing for Three months. The problem stopped. So I'm not bugging the dealer.
I have had this problem occasionally, on a couple different cars. I always thought it had something to do with the specific gas pump nozzle that was being used and the shutoff mechanism in the nozzle.
The other day I saw something unusual though (and be advised, I live in a state with a restriction against pumping your own fuel, so it's always pumped by gas station attendants) - - I had almost no fuel, the pump clicked off after putting in only about 5 gallons, and I advised the attendant that it was nowhere near full, and he did something I had never seen before. He spun the nozzle 180 degrees, so it was "upside down" (not really, as it was still in the filler neck, but it was reversed from the normal position), then he squeezed the trigger and set the clip, and it filled all the way and clicked off at the appropriate time!
In 40 years of driving I've never seen anyone do this. Have you?
