It whistles slightly at part throttle ~3-4000 rpm on the dyno, but have not heard it while driving (though have not drove it at part throttle at 3-4K)

Then again mine whistles at idle, it screams at part throttle and Im almost afraid it will blow out the windshields of the cars Im passing at full throttle. I have to say it can almost be too much on a daily basis. Almost. hehe

it's more pronouced in the crappy STS kits due to the turbo being placed by the rear axle.
Under hood turbos get muffled, but yes they all make noise.
My fully spooled turbos used to drown out a LS1 with open headers going down the track.

Why do you say the STS is crappy? What turbo kit are you running?

STS is designed to make it simple and easy to install. But a turbo should be extremely close to the engine for two reasons: you don't want to lose heat from the exhaust before it reaches the turbine and you don't want the compressor to be a long ways away because it creates a long lag before boost comes on. So the STS couldn't be worse for an ideal system.
