I just bought a C6 and was wondering it any of the jack pads or jack pucks are better then the others. I also saw a pair of "rail-like" attachements in the Corvette America catalog that claim to act as both rocker panel protectors (for speed bumps, road objects) as well as act as permanent jack pads.
The pucks are pretty much the same and they all do their job, thats what I'm using. I was looking at the rail covers with built in pucks myself, since I lowered my car. I'm afraid they will rub being lower than the frame rails.
I think $70 for the lifting pucks is bit high. And the $300 or so for the frame skid rails is downright criminal. I have completed the construction of some homemade lifting pucks, and will use them to get the car in the air to make final measurements for the frame rail skid bars. (Work is in progress) I think (hope) my pucks will work better than the "store bought" ones because I made them with a sliding pin through the center. The puck can be used with a flat surface lifting mechanism or in my case I have a hydraulic 4 arm lift that the pins will lock into the lifting arms. A quarter turn locks them into the oval holes in the frame, so I remove them when not in use. I used 4" by 4" -1 inch thick pieces of seasoned Oak for the pucks, with 1/2" solid rod for the centering pins. All painted Victory Red of course. These materials basically cost nothing as they were scraps from past projects. The aluminum bars for the frame rail protectors cost about $25 wholesale. I sandwiched (2) - 1/4" thick by 1" wide bars together to make a 1/2" x 1" - 72" long piece. (1) req for each side. These will not have the lifting pads built in, they will be straight bars with a slight curl at the front. Total savings for the project $345 plus freight. I guess you could say you don't need the frame rail protection, but get this... the first day the Little Lady (77 Vette Girl) drove the '07 to work, she ran over a 5" high curb in a parking deck that was not there the day before. No fun at all .....
Save the Wave!
Made mine from 4 old hockey pucks. Drilled a hole in the center of each puck and threaded a carriage bolt into the hole. Ground down the top edges of the carriage bolt so that it fit into the slot in the rail. Rotated the puck 90 degrees to hold them in place. Works like a charm and cost less than $5 total.
Mine cost a little more using NHL game hockey pucks. Mine were autographed by Mario Lemiuex, Wayne Getzky, Gordie Howe and Bobby Orr...so they might have been better suited for an Ebay auction, but hey I SPARE NO EXPENSE ON MY VETTE.
