Lately my 2005 z51 6 spd has been grinding when I try to engage it in reverse. It only grinds in reverse and not all the time (but more often lately). The fluid level is good, but rather really dirty (almost black in color). Also there is some particulates in the resevoir as well.
It tends to really do this when the car has been standing will runnning for a while. It almost feels like pressure is being lost but I figured it would do it on every gear. Are the hydraulic lines rubber or steel?? I know that rubber ones will expand when hot and that pressure can be lost in this way but it still does not explain why it only does this in reverse. I also do not think it is the clutch.
Any help is appreciated.

Your clutch is not disengaging completely.
Reverse is a gear that should be selected when the car is stationary. You have to come to a stop before you can reverse directions...unless you are doing some kind of movie stunt. If the car is not moving, the only way you can have "grinding" is for the transmission input shaft to be turning, and the only way that can be happening is for the clutch plate to be slightly touching the flywheel.
Bite the bullet, and take'er on in if you want it gone.
