A lot of intelligent guys on this fourm. Hoping someone could suggest if it would be a waste of time to do a moderate cam 218/224 144 with no headers or high flow cats? I have corsa cat back but want to avoid the headers/cats upgrade to keep the volume at a reasonable level.

My other option is the Crane 1.8 rockers. thanks.

I had that same cam in an LS1, was very pleased with it. It idled exactly like stock. I got 383 HP with shorty headers and the OEM cats & mufflers.

IMHO, that cam is a little small for the LS2. It might still work OK with XE-R lobes (lift around .580"), but you would be leaving some power on the table.

Your worries about the noise with headers/cats is unrealistic. I have LG Pros & high flow cats, stock mufflers. My wife has never even noticed the change, and I can barely tell the difference myself at anything short of WOT. Even then, the sound increase is very small.

The only thing that really bothered me was when i took off one of the passenger side rocker arms i accidentaly dropped it being careless. To make matters worse i was standing on a stool next to the engine bay and when i stepped down of course i walked on the rocker arm and bolt. Ive already contacted Gene to get a new one because i dont trust the sound it made when i came down on it. I guess it could have been a lot worse...

Ill have another update tomorrow night.

Dave
Haven't heard from you. How pleased are you with the final result?
I plan on a similar swap this coming Spring.

This is a neat thread and it is also good to see differing opinions without a flame war.

I would like to add my opinion. I recently bought my C6 with the mods in my sig after my blown C5 got smacked up. Now my cam is what I would consider radical. It would definitely not be my choice if I were to go through the trouble to do a cam swap. It idles like a harley and doesn't stop breaking up until ~1800 RPM. It sounds really neat and makes big power on the top end but the power doesn't come on until ~4000 RPM. It did dyno at 400 RWHP per the previous owner but I don't know what the curve looked like. With a good set of heads this cam would really shine but still lack the drivability I had with my Procharged C5. I am tuning it with HP Tuners but there is not a lot that can be done on an LS2 with respect to idle tuning.

I'm sure there are cams that are better in the low end, idle better, etc. COW had a thread a little while ago on their "stealth cam" which made 400 RHWP (with long tubes) and apparently idled like stock. Cams are very subjective. What someone likes another may not and subtle changes in the lift, duration or LSA result in big changes in how it behaves. So just be careful in your choice of cam selection. I would say that a cam swap is a worthwhile mod. There are not many other mods that can add 50 RWHP as cheaply...as long as you know what you're putting in so you're happy with it afterward.

Hello there, I have a 2008 c6 and I'm thinking of performing a cam swap for my car. It would be helpful if you can show me the way you have done this project and I can judge if it's a job I can do... I have done small mods my self (headers, intake, big brakes) I know it's not much... =(
Thanks for your time

I've made two DIY cam swaps in my garage on C6s (on jack stands). If you have a good DIY, which you can find on LS1Tech, you should not have a problem if you are somewhat mechanically inclinded. A few tools that I would recommend:

- Good DIY -- can get on LS1Tech forum
- Torque wrench -- one for in/lbs and ft/lbs. You will need to torque the crank bolt to 250 ft/lbs before the final degreee turn. I just used a 200 ft/lb and went a little more.
- LS2 Torque Spec Sheet
- Spring compression tool, assuming you are changing springs. I got mine at at ThunderRacing.com.
- Lifter Retainer tool...can also be had at ThunderRacing.com. These are two rods that slide in both sides of the block to hold up the lifters while swapping the cam.
- 24mm socket and breaker bar for the crank bolt.
- New LS2 crank bolt.
- New Front Timing Cover Seal. (did'nt replace this one time and it leaked).
- Assembley Lube for the cam.

Here is a link to one of my posts regarding my first cam swap.
http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c6-t...-cam-swap.html

I may have forgotton some things, chime in guys.
