Default Questions about LT Headers

I spoke to my near by performance shop guys about LT Headers for my A6 they told me some of their customers are having trouble with some of the oil lines getting hot and boiling the fluids. Also recommended getting high temp spark plug wires because of the extreme heat from the headers. He was also kind enough to tell me I might get CEL from the install of the headers do to the cats not getting hot enough. Are ANY of you with LT's having any of these problems?

You can get sleeves for the plug wires, but you should not have any problems with coated headers. Dynatechs had some probs with overheating of hydraulic lines for M6 cars, so now they have a separate model just for M6 cars, but they will also fit an A6. You can also wrap any lines that get close to the headers.

Re the CEL lights, these were much more common with the C5's, but at least with a C5 you could reset the light from the DIC. Haven't seen many posts at all about lights on the C6's. The codes can be deleted by a tuner, which I would recommend with any header install.

the wires and coils are pretty close, they don't need to route nearly as far/careful as they used too. by using 'coil packs' located on the valve covers the plug wires are a straight shot, no need for hangers or holders. the wires don't really come close to the headers at all.

i thought it was a couple of a4 cars that caught fire. maybe, i'm wrong, but thats what i seem to remember. the problems were reported early in production and the company appeared to be very helpful in repair/replacement of the car(s).

i haven't heard of any line/fluid/header issues, lately.

just make sure to properly identify your car when you 'order' the headers.

there have been some cel issues post header install. seems to mostly be o2 related. if the sensor gets contaiminated during reinstall, it will trip a cel. if a wire get's burnt, etc.

i just reinstall them, i don't put anything on them (the o2 sensors) or the threads.

i agree, coated headers have multiple benefits.

Zig, I have a set of Dynatechs and researched this issue. At first I couldn't understand why either version would fit my A6, but after I learned the history, it made sense.

you know, come to think about it, it might have been some m6 cars that fried the 'clutch line', caught the fluid on fire and .....

as far i know/ have heard the problem has been resolved.
it was an early design, when the '05's came out.

my kooks came with a 'line' hold down anchor, but for the life of me i couldn't find where i'd used it. no indication if it was for automatics or not. i crawled all up, under and in the engine bay and made sure anything that carried fluids was far enough away, sleeved, achored/tied back and still couldn't find a place for it.

how you like the dynatechs ? was there a 'noticeable' (sotp) difference ?

It was the clutch line on the stick that lit up on 3 different cars. There were pics up on the forum. The did step up on repairs but will still never get my business. Why? Becuase they never even bolted a set up to a stick car before offering them for sale. That from their own mouths. Their C5 headers didnt fit right either when they were first released.

edit... When I think about I believe two cars flamed on. One guy caught it in time. The fluid was smoking but didnt ignite.

I haven't installed them yet, they're still sitting in my garage. I'm hoping to get them installed next week, followed by a tune (Chuck of CoW). I'll have him edit out the TM too!!!!

Default Hey Guys....

Well, we use the LG Pro's as you already know...and we do not reccomend using any type of heat coatings....especially lg's as they are slip fit headers....

We have had no problems with plug boots...clutch hoses...or transmission lines with the LG's....

As much as the LG's are a first class product....I believe all of the problems are more related to the installer than the product themselves.

We do TONS OF LG's here with no problems on the install or after the fact.

By the way.....We just recieved a set of C6 LG PRO long tubes and a VARARAM Snake Charmer for a customer....and uh....DUH! I don't show an invoice or deposit taken for them....Sumpthin slipped through the cracks and I'm not sure who it's for...

So.... If I ordered them for you....Please speak up....If nobody speaks up by the end of the day.....They are for sale on an install only basis.....

Maybe I'll even make you a deal on the tune....

Stay TUNED,
Chuck CoW

Chuck, since I was planning to come up anyway, I'll take them both if nobody claims them. I can sell the stuff I had planned to install.
