I installed one a couple of months ago. The stick is straight rather than bent to the rear like OE, so **** ends up slightly forward from stock. I'd say it was engineered this way to facilitate a cleaner/faster shift from 2nd to 3rd. Throws are shorter than OE front to rear by about 35-40% and gates are tighter side to side. No noticable increase in effort with this shifter. Although dead quiet under normal use, there is a slight rattling noise under full throttle but only with your hand gripping the ****. Noise is very minor, and not an issue for me. A well engineered, quality piece IMO, at a good price. Can recommend without hesitation.
I bought a "used" B&M from a forum member because it rattled. it took a couple of weeks, but it rattles (like a 60's muscle car) for me too, but it doesn't bug me so I am OK with it.
I just had my MTI shaft angled and welded 20* at a local muffler shop for free, although I made the guy take $20.
Now you could make it any angle you want to fall right into your hand.

when you say he angled and welded it, did he cut it first or did he just heat it with a torch?
i can take the oem shifter and have a welding guy match it.
do you think there will be any problem with the strength of the mti shifter's shaft now that it's bent?
I have had mine on for a few months now and find it a big improvement over stock. The shifts feel more accurate and with a closer gate, without the rubbery feel of the original . For those experiencing shifter buzz, make sure the **** is on tight. I ground down my torx set screw that holds the original **** on because it didn't look seated when tightened all the way. I also wrapped the the top of the shifter shaft with teflon tape and used lok-tite on the set screw (advice from another forum member). No shifter buzz or rattle at all. I also guide it with the palm of my hand in the 2nd to 3rd shift. Needless to say I'm very happy with the shifter

I installed 6-shooter yesterday, but I got back to OE in 30 minutes because of the rattle. I first thought it's because of the **** not tightened, so I tested without the ****, it wasn't the cause.
Other than the rattle, shifting felt good and the throw was about just right.
I wound up passing on it due to order problems with MTI. Im glad I did, Ive read about 5 or 6 people with the same complaint with the new shifter. In the Z06 forum, Reese admitted to noise problems with about half, and they dont know what is causing it.
I wound up going the a B&M 45044 from Corvettes of Houston. It was less money, feels great, no noise, no problems finding any gear, and best of all I had it in three days(I waited 5 weeks and finally cancelled with MTI). And to top it, it has a million mile warranty, where MTI states they only warrant their parts of the shifter for one year, but the parts they reuse from GM are only guaranteed upon initial installation. They also state the warranty is void if the shifter is used intensively, like for racing, because it is not designed for that (I think anyone who is upgrading their shifter is doing so in order to drive more intensively). So if the parts they use from GM break two weeks after you install it, you are out of luck.
I installed a MTI Six Shooter this morning. It is an awesome improvement over stock. It did arrive two weeks later than promised, but it was well worth the wait.
I just took my six shooter out of my C5 Z06 (same shifter used for C6) because of the obnoxious rattle. I'm able to reproduce this rattle by holding the shifter base in one hand and jiggling the shift lever with the other. Appears to be too much clearance between the ball and socket bushings in my shifter which allows it to rattle. My stock 17K mile shifter is still tight, and never a rattle. Thought I bought a precision product.
The shift feel and function of the six shooter is great, but can't live with the rattle. Even my passenger complained, "I thought these corvettes were supposed to be good," How friggin embarassing.
Hi guys,
I would like to just chime in here and say that the shifter we here at MTI Racing developed was born at the road track (in all honestly) and that is where its full potential is realized. Also, we have sold over 400units and only 17 call-backs / negative forum feedback, not bad numbers (percentage wise) but still not the level of perfection we try to achieve. However, we are not leaving you hanging we are working on this and have two engineers developing a dampening system that will work in conjunction with our "Six Shooter." The real problem is that when you replace something stock, rubber, or other wise sloppy with something rigid and precise there are pros and cons. Pros: faster, shorter, more direct shifts. Cons: some driveline vibrations can transfer through the ****. The question for those of you who have the rattle is what’s worth more to me? Precision or noise?
Thank you guys for your patriotism, patience and support of MTI Racing.

Do we really have to give up on one? I don't think so. There are at least one aftermarket shifter that does both (Callaway).
BTW, do you guys accept returns?

I can get mine to rattle in my hands with the shifter out of the car. No driveline noise comming through there. I'd have to say for a street driver like mine noise is more important.
Once you get the bugs sorted out you may have one of the best shifters out there. Too bad I bought mine while this product still midway in its R&D stage and is being user tested. Clever devils; make people pay $200 to test your product for you.

True they should have done more R&D before selling to the GP but atleast they are taking actions to fix the problem and work with their customers, thats alot more than I can say for most speed shops

Pardner, I hate to break the news to you but I had a Callaway Shifter and it buzzed like a ****! Sold it within a week of purchase.
Hey Friends,
I believe that some are misunderstanding, the six shooter was a 2 year project and, by our standards, is still in progress because we do not settle for anything less than absolute perfection with any and all of our products and services. For the track it is perfect, and any of the guys that have used it there will agree with that statement. However, when you take something that is designed for performance driving, moreover track conditions, you do not desire comfort over precision or reliability. Again, that does not mean that it should feel like the old rock-crusher "a boat paddle in a bucket of nuts" but it should not make your car a daunting chore to drive either. That is why we are developing a dampening system for the guys who have this complaint, and for the guys who do not track their cars often or just want to safeguard against the noise.
Thanks,
JR
