Default DOT 4 Brake fluid

I know this has been asked before but instead of searching the old threads for hours I figured I would just ask...

What is the best DOT 4 Brake fluid to replace the DOT 3 before my NOV. 2 track day?

I've been using ATE.

Here's a recent thread, from a better section to ask in...

It's tough to define the absolute best. However, ATE Super Blue and Wilwood EXP 600 Plus are certainly among the best. They are both DOT-4 spec, have dry and wet boiling points that exceed the spec, and low water absorption characteristics.

Great! Thanks for the link to the other thread too-

It seems there is no "hands down" best, but the majority seems to lean towards the ATE.

now- do you guys change the fluid yourselves? and do you have any cool gadgets that make it easier, or that i would need to have? the last vehicle that i worked on myself (sad to say) was a '72 Olds cutlass. I'm a little nervous about doing anything to the vette.

Thanks again for your help-

Most people seem to like using the vacuum pumps, or pressure pumps. I bought a set of speedbleeders and really like them. They replace the bleed screws, but have a 1-way valve, so you can open one up, go pump the pedal, then close the valve when you're done.

From my research, Castrol SRF is the king, but it is a whopping 70 bucks a litre. My shop recommends Motul RBF 600 and that it what is going in my car next week when the calipers get powder coated. I will also use that in my clutch system.

I have the Russell speed bleeders on my '84 C-10 and on my everyday four-door sedan. However, Russell doesn't list them on their website for any Corvette newer than 1998. Could mlongo99 or some one else direct us to the correct part number and source for the C6 application?

Thanx in advance,

.

You can order here...
http://www.speedbleeder.com/

They don't list the C6 in the fitment guide, but if you call or email them, they will tell you which part number is the correct fit.

What is the best DOT 4 Brake fluid to replace the DOT 3 before my NOV. 2 track day?

The three most popular are:

ATE Super Blue
Motul 600
Castrol SRF.

Castrol is by far the best.

When you look at DOT 4 brake fluids look at the WET boiling point Not the DRY boiling point.

Why the wet? those are the minimal temps the brake fluid will hold up to when saturated with water. Water satuation is 2-4%. It takes all of 30 days after a fluid change for it to be come saturated. No if ands or buts. It will become saturated

This is why most races and guys who go to the track frequently change their brake fluid the day before and a few days before they hit the track.

With Castrols high WET boiling point only the calipers need to be bleed before easch track event.

PPl say Castrol is $70 a liter, Yes it is. THree years ago I did 17 track weekends and went though 20 liters of SUper blue. Two years ago I also did 17 weekends and went though 4 liters of Castrol. You can do the math.

I dont use the speed bleeders but a Motive pressure bleeder, a old plastic soda bottle with a tygon tube out the cap and a 10mm wrench,

Thanx a bunch. It looks like this is also the source for Russell's Speed Bleeders. The website quoted does list an application for 1998-2005 Corvettes- suggesting that the C5 and C6 use the same bleed screw, and perhaps the same calipers. I have sent an email asking for confirmation that the SB1010S is the correct application for our 2006 C6 cars.

Yes, can someone post what the correct part # for the speedbleeders is? This is a nice solution to get that DOT 4 brake fluid in. So whats the right order of bleeding each wheel to get this fluid in? I did it with a friend doing passenger rear, drivers rear, passenger front, and then driver front. I assume that is ideal?

1 rear-pass side
2 rear driv side
3 front driv side
4 front driv side
Basically ,furthest from the master cylinder first.

From speedbleeder.com:

"The size(s) that you need for your application is as follows:
Front....SB1010S - Rear.....SB1010S"

From Russell (part of Edelbrock):

"The part number I have listed for the ’06 Corvettes is 639560, front and rear. Thank you for using Edelbrock products."

So, take your choice. I will go with the stainless steel version from speedbleeder.com, since I am going to keep my car (and my 1984 C-10)
"forever."
