I realize I can shut off the dayime running lights from the turn-signal stalk, but is there any way to program the car so the default is with the running lights off, rather than on?? ??

Thanks . . . .Stu
I read that there is a fuse (#22?) you could pull on the C5 to shut off the running lights. Is there such a thing on the C6?
Wish there was a way. This is one of the many defaults GM lawyers have burdened us with.
Since GM has the daytime running lights they have been lobbying to make them mandatory in the US. Does anyone really want them? New BMW's since at least '97 have it both ways. At delivery the salesman asks if you want them. They then program it for you. How many late model BMWs do you see with running lights on? Darn few, at least in SoCal.
Yep. I think that anything that improves the ability of another car seeing you is good. And since I'm doing the driving I never notice them anyway unless it is another C6 coming at me.

whole-heartedly. And since my convertible is silver, I need all the help I can get making it visible to the geriatrics on the road here in Florida - of which I am nearly one myself :o .

The BMW has to turn em on and off. You can't do them yourself
No, but if there were, you would also turn off your turn signals.
Right. Same bulb, same filament, same wire, and same fuse for DRL and turn signal. The only way to disable the DRL without killing the turn signals is to reprogram the BCM.
Well, I suppose you could wire up an external module which detects when you press the start button and simulates the stalk switch that lets you manually disable the DRLs at start up. The only downsides to that are that it would take some fairly intrusive wiring changes, and you would no longer have automatic headlights.
Before I got my VY 06 Z06, I too wanted the DRL's off (orange lights- yellow car- yuck). After getting the car, I liked the look, now it looks "right" with them on. I especally like other Vettes with them on. It makes them easier to spot because I hate to miss a wave!

Salesman asked how we wanted BMW DRLs programmed...when we said, "on" he gave us a very funny look.
