What gears should i go with in the car. also is this a mod you would do before headers or cam/heads...the only mods to the car are cai and catback

so which is it and what are the pro/cons to each if any

This is a manual car I assume right?
Depends if you have Z51 (tranny gearing) or not and also if you plan on using sticky tires/drag radials at all as well.
I would likely start with the other stuff (headers, cold air intake, thermostat, tuning) first though.

the only prob i have with the headers is that i will have to get rid of my current cat-back (flowmasters) supposidly they have unbearable drone on the car.but i really like the sound of the flows so i was just thinking of doing other mods and doing the headers later after ive had the flows for awhile...or would it be better to just put the stock mufflers back on and sell the flows then get the headrers

also car is nonz51

Ok, then gears might be a viable option for you, either one (3.90 or 4.10, I'd get the 4.10s though) will give you nice gains in acceleration with one of the only downsides being a loss of traction on (especially non Z51) street tires and maybe a very, very small decrease in highway fuel economy (around town it could actually improve ).

what are you looking for??? SOTP feel?? plan on racing with it???

a gear change will turn your car into a totally different animal.....

I've done it to just about every car(truck) I've owned... it makes the SOTP feel like you just put in a new motor

i am planning to get 4.10 on my Z51.... even though most have put 3.90 on Z51 and 4.10 on base cars......

I'm looking for 0-60 fun!!!
shifting though the gears every couple of seconds just having a blast with the car..... we don't have a 1/4 track in the islands and won't have one for a while (few years at least) closed it in the beginning of the year

it will be like my old chevelle with 4.11's only better (have two over drive gears on vette - none on chevelle)

but....... if you plan on 1/4 mile racing with slicks... etc..... it will take a bunch of mods to get it down really fast (low 11's).... 3.90 may be better depending on mods and a whole lot of other things.......

headers are a good mod too...... again depends what your looking for.....

in my other resent cars I've change gears to 3.73 from 3.42/3.09
3.73 works well on the street on my other GM trucks/cars

the overdrive gear on those i believe is about .7 if they were closer to .5 like the vette i would have gone with 3.90 or even 4.11 on them too....

let us know how it turns out for you...... mods...... can't get enough of them!!!!

the car is first a daily driver...second i love quarter mile racing so that is what im looking for/building a daily driver with fast quarter times

also when you change the gears do you have to change the whole diff. of just the gears?

The consensus seems to be 3.90 for the track, because it gives you enough gear to complete the pass. For the street, 4.10s are best. Personally, I would never take this car to a dragstrip, because that's how stuff breaks, but that's me.

Short gears IMPROVE your traction. This may seem counterintuitive, but here is why: wheelspin occurs when torque overcomes the tire's ability to accelerate the car. If the car is accelerating quicker out of the hole, the tire has less inertia to work against (doing less work) and is therefore less likely to break traction. Even if it does, it is more likely to regain it. Also, the driver can modulate better.

You should be OK on stock tires. You can upgrade to the Supercar as on the Z51, it is a much stickier tire. There is also the Michelin PS2, non runflat, but excellent grip. For DRs, you can run a set of 18x9.5 OEM C5 rear wheels with 305 nitto Rs.

I would say gears would especially help the C6, which features a lethargic tune from the factory.

You can either go with DTE, which will ship you a new diff to your specs (basic piece is 1300) and you send them yours back. They hold core charge money until they get you gears. R&R is about 4 hours.

Unfortunately there aren't any, there are some sticky road racing (stiff sidewall) tires available that might help but they aren't ideal.

Yes, using 18" diameter rims most will use the BF Goodrich g Force T/A drag radials sized 295x35x18. The problem is getting the right offsets and width combination correct, overall diameter is smaller (speedometer error) too but that could also theoretically help gearing.
