I am going to add a power steering coller to my 06. Does anyone know if you have to use the special clamps which require a special too or can you safely use regular hose clamps? I dont know if it is true or not but the OE clamps look like they would not give as tight of a seal as regular hose clamps. Any ideas or thoughts?
The Most Important Thing Is To Use The Correct Hose Type And Size.
The Cooler Is On The Low Pressure Side So No Major Prob. There.
Use Good Quality Clamps And Do Not Over Tighten Them.
Question.
Why Are You Adding A P/s Cooler?

thanks for the info. I have read of some of the people cooking their power steering during track events and I thought this would be cheap insurance. The later C4s had them and the Z51 has them so I thought there must be a reason.
looking forward to some track days. I have already upgraded the sway bars. The only thing left right now is an oil cooler. Since I have the A6 I already have the trans cooler. I am not a serious racer but for $100 a power steering cooler is good insurance. My thinking is you should not wait for a problem to happen, but head it off.

If you are talking about driving on a road course at a HPDE then you probably don't need a PS cooler. I would concentrate on trans, oil, and brake cooling. Also brakes.
I took an 99 A4 to an HPDE and ran high trans temps about 1/2 to 3/4 the way through each session. A C6 with auto ran high trans temps about 1/2 way through and his trans would pretty much shut down on him.
