Before the C6 was introduced, one of the car magazines said that the windshield frame was so strong that the C6 convertible passed Federal roll over standards, even though it's not required for convertibles. Has any one read or heard this anywhere official? Just curious.
There is no such thing as a "magnesium roll cage" on the Z06. The Z06, like every other C6 has a halo bar (the b-pillar), made of aluminum for the Z, and the targa roof panel, permanently bolted in for rigidity. All Targa roof panels have a Mag frame. The winshield pillar on all C6s, Z included, are AL.
Regarding rollover, there is a widely circulated pic of a rolled C6 Coupe, a yellow one on a flatbed truck. The winshield frame is nearly flattened on the driver side. The only thing that kept the driver's head from being crushed was the Halo bar, itself pretty damaged.
My first thought looking at the pic was that the occupants would probably be dead if it had been a Vert. Accordingly, I don't really care about what the government says. I will not buy a Vert for this reason.
As TTROTARY posted, the only magnesium in the C6 is the top frame. It is removable in the coupe and bolted in in the Z. I would have concern too about the windshield frame serving as a roll-over hoop in a crash. The B pilars & cross member is strong in a coupe and in a Z.

What about the front cradle, thought this is magnesium as well?
