I've heard you say that before...some of you guys are not listening, and you're not getting any smarter, unfortunately.
Maybe the teflon tape won't do any harm, and you'll be OK, but why take the risk? Your reasoning is that the elastomeric o-ring needs to be backed-up by teflon tape???!! I'm outta' here...
C6 drain plugs are 14mm head and have no magnet tip. If you get yourself a C5 plug as I have, It's a 15mm head (better grip) and has the magnet at the end of the bolt. It's there to pick up metal pieces that are sheared off form time to time. Believe me no engine is free of that. Now as to why GM's wisdom has Failed to continue the use of this type of magnetic tip is beyond me. I have pieces on it at every oil change. Yes, I know there very small and seem insignificant, but why gamble. BTW it's about $4.50.

My 13 GS is 15mm. (Non magnetic) Maybe I got lucky...

You missed it...there are no magnets on 05/06 C6s, but magnetic drain plugs are standard on 07.
No one can say the General doesn't listen to the customer...chrome OEM wheels ($$$$), magnetic drain plug. I have a magnetic drain plug I got for my 06, and have never installed it...not a big difference either way IMO.
The O ring on the C6 drain plug is permanent. It is supposed to be for life. You do not have to change it. That is why it has no part number listed. If you want one you buy the whole drain plug. Dealers do not change it when they do oil changes either.

But, there are a couple of guys that said they change it at every oil change??

I was wondering the same thing, when I changed mine last week I saw the o-ring and it didn't look like you could change it. I think it also looks more like a rubber washer than an o-ring. Just my 2 cents.

Yep! How and with what is the question!
For my first oil change i wanted to buy it, after all every car i had required one. The parts could not find it listed, went to service manager who did not know it but he called GM tech help when i was sitting across from him. This Is also reflected in the official shop manual, no mention of replacing the o ring from any of the drain plugs( on dry sump). I do not know about wet sump but logic dictates that it would be the same.

Question Is.Where are they getting the so call 'O' ring?.O'Rellys can not get it.....
Thanx for the replies. Guess I won't worry about it for a few changes!
It has been my experience that it is unnecessary to change the o-ring with every oil change. However, it would be a good idea as a preventative measure to replace it every 4 or 5 years as rubber will thermally age eventually. I would be unhappy if I waited too long and had to live with a drip until the next oil change. Your results may vary.

It is changeable. You are right. It looks more like a rubber washer than an o-ring but it does have a half ring geometry molded into the flat part of the washer. I have always bought these from the local chevy dealerships. They can be bought separate from the drain plug itself.

Pretty sure mine is probably the original from 2009, 90k miles, no leaks.
But it's probably just easier to buy a new drain plug for like $3 and comes with the washer, lol. GM part number 11562588 if I am correct.
