Does anyone change the small o-ring on the base of the drain plug when you change the oil? I didn't at my first, 2000 miles, but wonder if you need to in the future. It sets in the housing of the base and doesn't look like a wear item, but not sure.

I've been changing oil on all my cars for 37 years and have never changed the o-ring. However, I always start my car, check the oil pressure, and then check for any leaks at the drain plug and filter.

I change mine every time, as a preventative measure.

Pointless. Inspect and replace when required...i.e. when obviously damaged, or when you begin to get an occasional drip. You'll probably need a new one in about ten years.
I own an XJ8 that I do my own maintenance on and in three years have not replaced it. I spend time on the Jaguar forum and read the same kind of issues. When Jag owners take their car to the dealer for an oil change they replace the drain plug with a built in o-ring at every oil change. The current cost is $12. What a rip off.
C6 drain plugs are 14mm head and have no magnet tip. If you get yourself a C5 plug as I have, It's a 15mm head (better grip) and has the magnet at the end of the bolt. It's there to pick up metal pieces that are sheared off form time to time. Believe me no engine is free of that. Now as to why GM's wisdom has Failed to continue the use of this type of magnetic tip is beyond me. I have pieces on it at every oil change. Yes, I know there very small and seem insignificant, but why gamble. BTW it's about $4.50.

You missed it...there are no magnets on 05/06 C6s, but magnetic drain plugs are standard on 07.
No one can say the General doesn't listen to the customer...chrome OEM wheels ($$$$), magnetic drain plug. I have a magnetic drain plug I got for my 06, and have never installed it...not a big difference either way IMO.

Not really, My 2002 C5 had a magnetic tip on the drain plug, and when I saw that my C6 didn't, I simply pruchased one for my C6 at the dealer, using the dealer part # from my C5. I reasoned that the thread size hadn't changed and it hadn't. The only difference being the head size of 15mm for the C5 and 14mm for the C6. This was in 2005 way before the 07's came out. I think your info my be incorrect.
I get no commission for lies or bs told on Corvette Forum...it's not profitable, so there's little incentive. Skepticism is healthy if it doesn't slam the door on your mind. Here, let me help you out:

I also like to put a couple of wraps of teflon tape on the threads of the plug.

I've heard you say that before...some of you guys are not listening, and you're not getting any smarter, unfortunately.
Maybe the teflon tape won't do any harm, and you'll be OK, but why take the risk? Your reasoning is that the elastomeric o-ring needs to be backed-up by teflon tape???!! I'm outta' here...
