Someone else most certainly did though.

Never mind the post you are apparently upset about, lets keep the discussion on track and avoid getting the thread locked down.

How do you respond to the poster who relates his experiences in his manual Z51 at Road America?

Please similarly describe your own experiences in your base manual car at Road America, as the prior poster did, or any other venue, which refute his statements and verify your prior statement that:

The Z51 gearing allowed me to keep my RPM's just where they could generate max torque and thrust coming out of this turn and allow me to blast into the next turn. I could walk away from any non Z51 geared car.

The instructors on hand raved about the "correctness of the gearing".

Your wrong.

Nice pics. I love that course. Raced there, back in the day, about 6 times in C then B Stock Production. Had Mark Donohue give me a trophy even...memories....

I have a non-Z51 tranny and have driven my buddies Z-51. His car is much more "fun" to drive on the street as the gear ratios are appreciably higher. 2nd gear breaks loose at any rpm where mine only breaks loose in the higher rpms.

At the 1/4, I have been consistently 0.5s faster than him but I have a vararam and he does not plus differences in skill. Having driven both cars I submit the Z-51 is a faster car with equal drivers.

Recently went to a Porsche challenge where they called out other sports cars to be compared to the "fine German machinery." There were about 30-40 porsches (carrera, turbos, most of them on full race slicks, etc), 1 M3, and 3 vettes (my magetic ride C6 on nitto RII's, a C5 on full slicks, and C5 ZO6 on street tires).

The RESULTS, I posted the fast times of the day by over 4 seconds with 2nd place going to the C5. My experience to road racing has been three discrete experiences in the last 6 months and reading a book on the subject.

My point, having driven the Z-51 on the street, I feel like it is definetely more fun. I'm not sure how much better on a road course the Z-51 is but a non-Z51 is nothing to look down as evident after this weekends challenge.

You read how satisfied other people are with their Z51s, and read their glowing reviews of the features, and your subconscious mind says..."Dam, I could've had one of those Z51s!!!" But, then, your conscious mind can't stand to admit that it made a mistake not selecting the Z51 option, so it begins to try to realign reality with your decision.

So, between the two of you, you have eliminated the Z51 tranny as the transmission of choice for either road racing or drag racing...only the base MM6 is adequate for anything, even getting the groceries. This implies that you two think you're smarter than General Motors, because your combined assertions would mean the General designed a transmission with no purpose!

Since it's hardly likely that you two are smarter than General Motors, we can only conclude that your efforts to realign reality are based on faulty premises derived from the need for your conscious minds to constantly believe they can't make a mistake.

Keep working at it...if you have yourself believing it, that's half the battle. The rest of us, however, see through your protestations as transparently as glass. If you find yourself having doubts about your realignment efforts, professional counseling may be helpful to reconcile your subconscious and conscious minds to live harmoniously in the same brain.
