Default J-46079 TPMS Tool Software Update Cable

I have the J-46079 TPMS reset tool which works great with the C6.

I'm trying to update the software in it to work with my 2007 Tahoe (for tire rotations, etc.)

I acquired the applicable software on eBay (Kent Moore J-46079-20 v.3.3 3/20/06) but am struggling with the cabling.

More info follows

I got the J-46079-20 v.3.3 3/20/06 software in the mail today.

It's only 3 small files.

The homemade RS-232D EIA/TIA-561 terminated DB-9 to RJ45 cable I made didn't work, as the software references using a "GM Tech II RS-232 Cable with DB-9 end on computer end and RJ45 connector on J-46079 tool". The wiring pin-outs must be non-standard (i.e. not wired to EIA/TIA-561 for RS-232D, or the J-46079 port is wired crossover, or something is wrong with my custom cable), as I get the message:

“***UNABLE TO FIND TPM***Please be sure that the TPM tool is connected properly.”

You put the tool into flash mode as discovered (hold left activate button while turning power on). Reset back to v.1.0 by removing batteries if flash incomplete (e.g. bad cable).

Everything still works fine, so no harm done there due to the attempted flash or homebuilt cable.

I contacted OTC and they said that their OTC 3833-7 cable should be available 11/10/06 and should retail at $24.95 (only available to the public thru an OTC distributor). I'll probably order that when it is available, or try a RJ45 crossover cable converter on mine in the meanwhile.

The OTC 3833 is the same thing as the Kent Moore J-46079, albeit the J-46079 is specific to GM and the OTC 3833 works with all brands.

Question:

Anyone know where I can get the referenced GM Tech II DB-9 to RJ45 connector RS-232 protocol cable?

I'm going to try this Tech 2 cable, and see if it works. If so, I'll post the pin-out here.

Default Success!!!

Got the GM Tech 2 DB9 to RJ435 RS232 serial cable in the mail today.

It worked like a charm with the SPX Kent-Moore J-46079 TPMS tool for the software update!

My J-46079 now reads my '07 Tahoe's sensor ID and psi.

Cable pin out is as follows (make your own GM Tech 2 [J-46079 update] cable for less than $5):

Back of DB9 female socket (to computer):
1 2 3 4 5
' 6 7 8 9

A typical DB9 to RJ45 adaptor:

RJ45 male plug (to J-46079 upload port):
1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8
(tab on backside)
FYI - RJ45 pin (8p8c) numbering info can be more clearly seen here @ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Rj45plug-8p8c.png

GM TECH 2 PIN-OUT (WORKS WITH J-46079):

DB9 pin 1 = RJ45 pin 2
DB9 pin 2 = RJ45 pin 4
DB9 pin 3 = RJ45 pin 5
DB9 pin 4 = RJ45 pin 8
DB9 pin 5 = RJ45 pin 7
DB9 pin 6 = RJ45 pin 1
DB9 pin 7 = RJ45 pin 3
DB9 pin 8 = RJ45 pin 6
DB9 pin 9 = NOT USED

Pics of the flash are attached...
