Default Installing a Cat Back

I installed a cat back a while ago (GHL) then removed them. Now I want to try them again but the first time I dropped the header pipe (H pipe) to get the stock cans out, also the rear sway bar. If I unbolt the rear hangers do I still have to drop the H Pipe ? The reason I ask is I've read that the stock bolts holding the H pipe are very fragile and I'd rather not stress them further, Thanks,

if all you're replacing is the rear section,no x pipe, then just unbolt from the rear of the h pipe and the rest of the bolts/hangers by the mufflers.no need to completely remove h pipe.Bolts are bolts,if one breaks a muffler shop has a ton.No issues taking mine off 3 times in the span of a month for different systems, btw.

Yes you can do it without loosening the H-pipe. I installed the Stingers on my car myself. It is a pain when you have little clearance under the car and you only want to unbolt the rear section. If you are removing the stock exhaust, then you will have to drop the sway bar again since the mufflers and over-axle pipes are one piece. Either that or take a sawzall to the pipes and cut them behind the mufflers. It's going to take some cursing, but you can do it.

I understood that one had to drop the H-pipe in order to get the axle pipes out of the H-pipe, which had to be done before the muffler hangers would slide out of their bushings. I also understood that one could wiggle the stock mufflers and axle pipes out without droppong the sway bar with patience and a few choice words. Am I to understand that someone has removed the stock mufflers and axle pipes without dropping the H-pipe at all?

Yea, I did. The first time I changed the exhaust system All I did was jack up the rear and work under that small space. I did have to drop the sway bar to clear the over-axle pipes, since they are attached to the mufflers. With aftermarket systems you can install/remove the exhaust without dropping the swaybar since the muffler/over-axle pipes are 2 pieces. There is a bit of push and shove, and plenty of cursing, when removing the stock pipes without dropping the h-pipe, but its doable.

Thanks! An axle-back is on my Christmas list. I'll try your method.

No need to remove the swar bar. Just removed my stock muflers today without touching the swar bar. Put Corsa Sports on with headers and high-flow cats. Sounds purrrrrfect!
