Climate control malfunction
The LCD on my climate control quit working this evening. The backlight was on, but I couldn't get anything to appear in the display. I tried pushing the temperature dials and other buttons, and even restarting the car.
I was still able to adjust the air temperature using the dials (although no temperature was displayed), but the row of pushbuttons remained nonfunctional.
After about twenty minutes, a bunch of nonsense appeared in the LCD. Shortly afterward the display was back to normal -- except everything in it was flashing. The flash frequency was probably about 2Hz and totally regular (not what you would find with a loose connection). Otherwise, the climate control operation was normal. All the buttons worked again.
The flashing won't stop. In fact, it has persisted across multiple restarts. I haven't yet tried disconnecting the battery (although that strikes me as quite the non-fix).
Has anyone else seen this problem?
